Looking for something entertaining for your 2 - 7 year old? The Richmond Children's Museum is a wonderful place to start. The museum has many interactive exhibits, such as a mouth children can walk into to demonstrate the digestive process. Beware of obscenely funny sounds! There is a grocery store and apple orchard in which kids can role play. There is a tree house and cave children can climb around. There is a large room dedicated exclusively to crafts. Periodically temporary exhibits are featured, such as dinosaurs. There is also a play area for younger children with a gate. It can become over crowded with older siblings at times. This is a great place to host a birthday party. We had our older daughter's 3rd birthday party there last year with great success. The museum buddy assigned just for your party keeps things moving - and that's important for preschoolers! I forgot the candles for the cake and the hostess even had spare ones! Weekends can be a bit cramped, but weekday mornings are usually not too bad - look out for the occasional school group. Also, look for coupons for one free child's admission with the purchase of an adult admission on the box of Ukrop's brand cereals!

The activites in the Children's Museum are geared toward preschoolers. There are a few things there for older children to do, but not enough to last very long. There is a special area for toddlers that is gated in. This is great if you have a child that likes to wander. There are slides and puzzles and a kitchen and other things in the gated area. The apple picking tree is a favorite with the preschoolers. The cost of admission has gone up over the years and now seems pretty high to me. They have added new things, like a water area for the kids to play in with their hands and an outdoor play area. The art room is alot of fun if your child likes to make things.

This museum is expensive when you have a large family We used to go a lot with child 1. He was free until his first birthday and then he was full price. There is a crawling area and toddler zone with an enclosed play area that is nice. My son loves the grocery store, tree house, dress up area and water toys. There is a nice craft area but he hasn't been too interested in that yet. Maybe he'll explore more of the scientific exhibits as he gets older too. We are able to use our club card from Stony Point/Regency to buy 1 get 1 free admission.

We were once member of the Children's Museum and loved all the time we spent there -- My girls were fond of, well everything, the craft room, the toddler area, the special exhibits, the kitchen and grocery store set up -- there is just so much for a family to do you can spend all day and not get it all in -- We decided not to renew our memberships when they doubled the cost but they have recently brought the price back down again and I'm so glad! I might actually join back up just for the sheer fun of it!

The Children’s Museum of Richmond, or CMoR, is a must-see place if you have children. With a separate play room for ages three and under, an outdoor garden, water play, caves to explore, structures to climb, and rooms for imaginative play, motor skill’s development, arts and crafts, and even a mouth to walk through, the $7 daily entrance fee or $100 annual family pass will prove to be a bargain! You will want to return again and again, when it’s too hot or too cold to be outdoors, and your children will never bore with the many exciting activities.
