Wonderful place that lives by reputation. This is an out of the way place, but it is always busy. Extremely fresh fish and wonderful service. We always sit at the bar and love it. Try the Aji - Japanese Mackeral - it was delivered fresh while we were there the last time -OMG fresh! Much milder than regular mackeral. And if you are brave, order it sashimi and have them fry the bones for you - yes, I said fry the bones!
Like another reviewer said, during the winter months, try the Ankimo, very mild buttery pate like monkfish liver that is steam cooked. Or try the Sashito peppers fried and ask for Ponzu sauce. Yummy mild green peppers they tempura fry or grill if you like.
I am not sure what the reviewer that complaind ate, but this IS Sushi and $40 for two is about par for Good Sushi - not cheap rolls and two for one specials. No way they ordered just tempura and paid that. Sorry you had a bad experience - we have eaten here for years and has always been good.
Pros: Super Fresh fish
Cons: Cost - but hey, it is sushi

Service was crappy in this restaurant, the portions were tiny and the bill outrageous. If I want that kind of treatment, I'll go to Benihana. The food is better. Won't be back again!

this is the 3rd time I've been to Sushi Sake and enjoy the food but have a harder time getting a prompt service.
upon entering..the dumbfounded looking "HOST" looked confused when I said party for 2 he said huh? and made us walk closer to him to tell him again...(I mean.. come on you're a host it's your job to find out what the customer want right? this guy was clueless)
we were greeted by a smiling waitress after sat down and ordered a hot tea, and water (*NOTE* must order with a lot of lemon or drink something else their water tastes really bad) I ordered a coke later on..
we ordered the niku tofu / edamame to start..which are extremely good deals and it was cooked just right
the tofu still tendor and the edamame wasn't too hard or too sawgy then we proceed to order the dobin mushi soup it was pretty good but somehow different than I remembered maybe b/c I had it at so many different places or could be the bamboo and the kinko nuts that was in the soup either way it was pretty good to my taste buds
then the hamachi kama came out it was a bit small so we got 2 pieces..this dish was some what dissapointing..the meat was cooked good/well but think they forgot to put salt on the fish or season it before going on the grill...so we had to dip it in some soy sauce..(it should of came with PONZU sauce which it didn't).
last but not least our sushi/roll came out..we had a order of jumbo clam and a order of salmon sushi...and a order of salmon skin roll..these can't go wrong since the chef/owner taught everyone himself (prob. taugh most of the chefs in DFW too) the sushi were very good in portion.
I wish the waitress could of a little more faster on checking up on us for refills and bringing/returning the check to us....over all it's a good experience I would of given it a 5 star if the service was better and maybe some minor update to the deco.
Pros: great selection of food, good sushi/rolls, close to 75
Cons: hidden location, some what unprofessional staff

This place doesn't get the free drive by advertising that many other places do but it is always PACKED. Fortunately I work very close by so I get to go here a couple times a month. When you walk the smell of fresh fish hits you (this is a good smell unlike anything that I have experienced elsewhere). This family run eatery has a nice authentic interior, friendly service and THE BEST SUSHI IN DFW (at least the best I have had so far and I have been to quite a few places).
Prices are pretty fair (average). The only real complaints I have are that they don't open early enough (they don't start taking take out orders until 11:30AM ), how quickly the parking lot fills up and how they aren't open at all on Sunday. They could also benefit by adding a wider variety of rolls to the menu.
Minor complaints, this is a can't miss 5 start place.
Pros: The best place I have been to in DFW.
Cons: They aren't open as much as I would like them to be.

I was so happy with this recommendation for Sushi found on this site. I was in Richadson on business and met a co-worker for dinner. It was a very busy Thursday evening and after eating the Sushi I understand why: Everything was very fresh and very tasty. I sat at the Sushi bar and dishes were served one-by-one. I very much enjoyed the leisurely pace of the meal. The service was as it should be - prompt and polite. The docor was beautiful. The only thing negative thing I could say is that it was hard to find. Thank goodness for GPS.
Pros: Ambience & Quality
Cons: location

This place has the best sushi and great decor. I have been coming there for about 4 years. They also have great sushi chefs who are very friendly. The only problem with this place is the service. It's hit-or-miss depending on who your waitress is. Some of them are very non-attentive and slow. The manager of the restaurant can be very rude. I have seen the manager ask people to leave after they finish their dinner because there are other people waiting for the table. I realize that this is a popular restaurant, but at the same time, people go out to eat for the atmosphere, food, and service, and I don' t think it's right to rush people out the door as soon as they're done with the meal!
Pros: Excellent food, friendly chefs
Cons: Poor service

Sushi Sake is by far the best place in Dallas for sushi. I have been going here for years, taking family and friends, and turning skeptics of sushi in to lovers of sushi. Trying other sushi bars has proven to be a waste of time. It is highly suggested to to get in early to avoid a long wait since they do not accept reservations. The entire experience from the service to the food is no less than perfect. The hostesses are very gracious and the servers are attentive. I would suggest to sit at the bar for the entertainment of the chefs and the prompt service. The same sushi chefs are always behind the bar, which is great to see. On top of all that, the restaurant is beautiful and very comfortable. It seems that many sushi bars in Dallas are rated by the location, the people in the restaurant or how trendy it is. Sushi Sake is off the beaten path. It is not trendy, nor is it packed with see and be seen people pounding martinis. Sushi Sake is high quality sushi, friendly staff and regulars, and seems to never miss a beat.
Pros: Great sushi, beautiful ambience, great service
Cons: Long waits later in the evening

This place has undoubtedly some of the best fish around. While I will admit that the variety of fish and the menu in general does not vary often, the quality and presentation is top notch. Also, the new location is not exactly on the beaten path but worth seeking out.
We try to go at least once a month, if not more, and always make sure we order the ?chef special?. Ordering the ?special? allows us to experience new items we might not necessarily select on our own and also allows our chef (usually Soda-san, Rio, or Ryan) to be creative and try out new combinations and/or ideas with delectable results. I highly recommend being seated at the sushi bar for the best experience. If you do not arrive early, expect to wait however it is well worth it.
The only con that I have after frequenting Sushi-sake for almost 10 years now is that *some* of the wait staff is not always in synch and can be down-right irritating at times. There are only a few of the waitress that have been there for some time and if you are not going to be seated at the sushi bar and you have a favorite few waitresses, I would suggest requesting one of them by name. I realize that sounds a little crazy however there is no food in the world worth experiencing with bad service.
Pros: Food quality, presentation, and general atmosphere is wonderful
Cons: Some of the wait staff can be very slow

On March 2, 2007, I invited friends of mine from Norway to Sushi-Sake. The Sushi was the best they have ever tasted. It's been 2 days and they still continue to rave about it. We arrived at 8 pm and it took about 30 minutes to get a table (without a reservation). Well worth the wait.
Pros: Excellent Sushi. Talented Chefs. Great Chef recommendations.
Cons: Very Popular. Arrive Early or expect to wait
