You have to understand Steamboat and the people to appreciate this facility. If you're from California and are used to, or expecting nothing but glitz ...too bad. You're missing the point. What you'll experience here is a very low key, first-class, relaxing, down to earth ambiance. The folks are great and do a fantastic job of getting you into your comfort zone quickly. The idea of updating the building or grounds is laughable. This is an AMAZING historic site built in an area of unique, geological, geothermal significance, and was once a designated stop for the Virginia & Truckee RR. The staff does indeed do constant restoration work to maintain the historic value. And it was actually Mark Twain who coined the name "Steamboat" when he saw two active geysers on the grounds which reminded him of a Mississippi Steamboat. Prices are reasonable, the people are great, and there are many options available. I would suggest researching the area and history to really appreciate your first visit. Enjoy!
