Although Safeway wasn't rated by Consumer Reports as having the least expensive groceries in my area (Fred Meyer was), I shop at Safeway because they are covered by The Grocery Game website, which is a deals website. I print out my list from the Grocery Game for Safeway each week, clip my coupons, and go off to shop. I like my local Safeway store for many reasons. Their customer service/video counter is always staffed from 9am on. There is a different grocery store near me where you have to wait forever at the customer service counter for someone to show up. But Safeway's is always staffed. I also like their bakery. The food there is always fresh, and I buy my childrens birthday cakes there as well. The one thing I don't like about Safeway is that their pricing on specials is done at the store level and a lot of times the promotions or prices can be screwed up. For example, there was one where if I bought a certain quantity of a certain toothpaste, the register would print out a $5 coupon toward my next grocery purchase.
