As long as you go in realizing that you are getting American-ized food it is good, but I would not call it authentic by any means. Think of a fancy Taco Bell. If you like to make a run for the border, go here and you will love it! (I love it every now and then.)
If you want REAL mexican food...forget the rest as there is only one!
Cinco de Mayo's in hillsdale. Walk in and you will feel like you are in Mexico. Look at the menu and realize that you in fact ARE in Mexico!

It is obvious that those who love this place have never had real Mexican food. Since when is Mexican food bland, isn't cumin (or any other spice) a key in Mexican cuisine? Since when is authentic Mexican cooking made in a MICROWAVE? They don't cook anything...only assemble! The sauce on the enchilada was a joke, marinara sauce? Wouldn't send my worst enemy here!

This is one of the best and most authentic Mexican Restaurants I have ever eaten at. Being in the Military I have traveled all over the world and tested local interpretations of Mexican food in various locations. This is by far my favorite. It was so good, in fact, that when I came home from Iraq I insisted this be the first restaurant I ate at because I had become such a fan before I left. The food is not greasy or drowned in spices or cheese (classic pitfalls of low quality Mexican food) but is well balanced, light and still manages to be delicious without being overpowering. The business is family owned and operated which helps create a friendly and welcoming environment and the service is always great.

The enchilada sauce it was some sort of marinara sauce....Big no no in Mexican Food!! it is not suppose to be bright red and sweet, considering that you don't use tomatoes in it!!!! It is soo over prized specially their guacamole which it wasn't anything special. Their green sauce was extremely hot, but ok in flavor. Their Tacos were just plain and full of lettuce. Their tamales, not fluffy at all just very hard the meat had no seasoning and with no taste, aside from floating in green salsa. For the prices, you are better off going to 3 Chicas in Wyckoff, pretty close to mexican food, or Badland Tacos (their chicken tacos are not bad but their salsas are very mild, and plain with no seasoning ), Blue Moon has great beans, and awesome chips and salsa!!!! Is not authentic but at least is good. But if you really want authentic food around here and a good dinning experience, go to Mama Mexico their guacamole is awesome!!! Made right in front of you!!! My food really tasted Mexican. It is pricey but worth it!!!Mamacita's I am sorry to said but Mexican food is not cooked with olive oil!!! That's Spanish food!!!! And your enchilada sauce it shouldn't taste like Ragu or Prego!!!!

Are we all talking about the same place here? The food was GROSS. When I ordered the avocado tacos I thought it would have been filled with fresh avocados, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, perhaps some salsa. It was guacamole with lettuce wrapped in a tortilla! I got a side of sour cream and it was $1.75. Is there a shortage of sour cream that I am unaware of that it costs almost two dollars for a dollop? The beef in the burritos looked like dog food. The salsa was gross too, it tasted like ketchup and pasta sauce. The service was horrible. Save your money and go to Taco Bell!

I had just about given up on trying to eat mexican food, for every place in our area seems to be a chain restuarant, or just a fast food place. When passing one day we decided to stop in and try it, and I am so happy we did!!! We dine there every two weeks, sometimes once a week depending on my wife's cravings! The food is made fresh to order, and tastes incredible. You truly get a homemade feeling, for the staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We have tried every single item on the menu, and I still can't decide what my favorite is. It's gotten to the point where I just tell Alex, the owner and cook, to surprise us with our entrees because we can never decide!! This restaurant truly knows how to make REAL Mexican food, and has reasonable prices. I cannot stress enough how good this place is, try it out for yourself!!

Mamacita's is by far the best mexican restaurant I have ever been too. The food tastes incredibly fresh, and you can even see them preparing it for you. You are welcomed by a friendly staff and a never ending bowl of chips and salsa that are to die for. Order the guacamole, and you will understand! Everything is made fresh, so once in a blue moon if the avacados aren't ripe you might be out of luck on the guac, but trust me it's worth either waiting for or coming back for!! My favorite appetizer is the nachos and crisps, as well as the chile con queso, i drizzle that over everything! My wife loves the mamacitas salads, which are healthy and fulfilling, while I usually get a combination of a burrito, tostada, and crispy taco. The rice and beans are never ending as well, just ask your server. The staff is extremely friendly and warm, they are usually young ladies who just want to appease the customers. The owner/cook is a warm woman who is always chatting with the regulars and even if she doesn't remember your name, she will remember your meal!! One time I had to leave on a long business trip and when I came back, she knowingly asked if I wanted my "usual," which I was surprised that she remembered! I could go on and on about this place, just try it for yourself! You won't be let down, I'm sure you will become a regular too! If you can appreciate good, homemade, real mexican food, this is the place to go!!
Pros: EVERYTHING

The food was average, but the worst part of the evening was a toss up of experiencing a waitress who racially profiled an Indian family and refused to serve them or playing musical chairs. First the family was seated at a comfortable table and when a larger party arrived, were asked to move to a smaller table. Secondly, it was the manager or the owner's wife served them, and was gracious. The young brunette waitress was extremely courteous to the rest of the patrons but outwardly curt with the Indian family. The ignorance made the already average food taste even more foul.

My family and I just moved into the area and decided to try Mamacitas. We were not expecting much as none of the mexican restaurants live up to our favorites from back home. We were so pleasantly surprised to be welcomed so warmly by both the staff and the owner Alex.
And the food was outstanding! Everything was incredibly fresh and unbelivably delicious.
This is a restaurant we can definitely enjoy over and over again with excitement and comfort!

I'm a little perplexed by the positive reviews. Maybe the people in Northern NJ don't have access to good Mexican food so anything is better than nothing. Personally, I went there with a friend and neither of us found the food very good. The chips were plain and the salsa uninspiring (tasted like it was out of a can). The meals were bland and for what you got, over priced. Add that to the 1950's Diner environment, and you have a place that I will not go back to.
