This event is held twice a year (winter/ summer). The Kid's Exchange accepts children's clothing, shoes, toys, bikes, games, videos, car seats, furniture, maternity and other related items on consignment. By consigning, you earn 2/3 of the selling price (you set the price)- with the rest going to charity. You may also volunteer. Volunteering has its benifits- you get to shop before general public. The lines are pretty long and things go fast- so get there early. Also-- bring a wagon or something to keep your stuff in as you shop. The last day is typically 50% off.

The North Regional Library is the only Wake County library I have visited and I had a very favorable first impression. Although there were study groups and children throughout the library, it was still quiet and pleasant. This library always has the newest novels when they come out and the waiting list never takes a long time. If they do not have a book and it is available at another library in the system, they will have it delivered to North Regional for pick-up. The numerous computers are of good quality. There is plenty of community information provided in the front lobby, including the free local publications and information on voting. Unlike many businesses in Raleigh, the parking space is plenty. All of the staff I have encountered has been pleasant and informative.

Jackie's Desserts is owned and operated by Jacqueline Fabiano. She makes cakes, pies, and more desserts out of her home in Raleigh, NC. The prices are very reasonable and her desserts are professional looking and delicious. I used Jackie to make my wedding cake and the taste and price of the dessert couldn't be beat. She delivers the cake to the location for you so the bride has less to worry about. I have also used her to make cakes for birthdays and special occasions. I highly recommend Jackie for your special occasion desserts.

Cookout has very good burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, hushpuppies, onion rings, and most importantly, Milkshakes!
The food is good. The best deal is the Cookout Tray. For $3.99, you get your choice of eight different main sandwiches/hotdog/etc (I always get the big double burger, which alone would usually be well over $2). Then you get to pick two sides from among fries, hushpuppies, onion rings, corn dog, and chicken nuggets (yes, you can get more meat as a side, ha ha). You get about 1/2 of a regular order (ie, you could order 12 hushpuppies for $1, you get 6 in the tray). You get a large soda or a HUGE tea or, for $0.80 more, you can get a milkshake. They offer dozens of flavors of milkshakes - my favorite is the strawberry cheesecake. You can also combine flavors on the menu, and the people working are always willing to offer more suggestions.
The service is very fast - double drive through, even! With the tray, for just $2 you can add a cookout t-shirt to your wardrobe, a great bit of local kitch.

We bought a couch this past weekend at Heavner Furniture Market in Raleigh. First of all this place is pretty cool. It is basically a huge warehouse of furniture, mostly discontinued, closeouts, or market samples. The prices are great and they have a huge variety of stuff. All of the sales people were very helpful without being pushy like many furniture places. We were scheduled to have our couch delivered within 3 days (we bought on sunday and had it on wednesday). They were scheduled to be there between 2:30-3:30 and I was kind of expecting them to be like most delivery folks and be late. But, when I arrived home to meet them at 2:15, they were sitting in their truck waiting. Now that is what I call good service. Will definitely be visiting them next time we need some new furniture.
