I recently went to the Red Room for the first time and was absolutely charmed by the place. I loved the whole idea of the tapas lounge and the ambiance that accompanied it to fit the downtown night scene. When I was having trouble picking from the list of mostly Spanish wines, our waitress spoke with us for several minutes before recommending the perfect bottle for our table. We will definitely be back soon!
Pros: Service, Ambiance

My friends and I recently went to the Red Room. The restaurant/bar is a very cool lounge and nightspot whose Spanish twist brings a posh, yet eclectic feel to it. It was nice out, so we sit on the side patio that is right alongside Glenwood Avenue and shared some good wine and delicious tapas. It?s the perfect place to hang out and have a light meal/snack and a couple of drinks, and be a part of a different environment than your typical college bar scene. The servers were very friendly and helpful when it comes to suggesting food and drinks, as not everyone is familiar with the concept of tapas. Oh, and the sangria is amazing!
Pros: Sangria, patio, great tapas

Food is very tasty...Spanish-inspired food but creative with various flavors from all over. Never had a bland meal here, and it seems they keep getting better.
Price-wise, it depends what you order. For a table of two, we got a shrimp ceviche appetizer, shared a big tasty goat cheese salad, and then split a half-pan of veggie paella....all for under $35 for the two of us, and we left too-full for dessert!
Drinks are pricy though...so that will definitely raise your tab. But it may just be worth it...the blueberry-lemon sangria is the best I've ever had.
Pros: Tasty food, good menu choices, veg-friendly, tasty ceviche
Cons: drinks are pricy

I have been to the Red Room before and have never had a problem. I guess that is because I have never ordered a drink before, usually being the "DD". I understand that the bartenders are busy but they can still be friendly. I ordered my first drink and everything was fine. I go to the bar to order my second drink ( the same drink as last time) and I am charged a totally different amount (a higher amount). I tell the bartender that it is different and just happen to have kept my receipt from the last drink and show her. She tells me that the other girl must have charged me the wrong price and that she was charging me the right one. I tell her that she needs to explain to me further why they are different before i pay her more for the same drink. She huffs and jerks my card out of my hand and goes just don't worry about it I will change it! Changes the amount to the same amount as before and gives me my new receipt without saying a word to me and giving me this evil look. I say whatever and let it go because I think I have the correct amount charged to my card now. I go to look at my bank statement a few days later and I have not only been charged the argued amount but also the amount she was supposed to change it to! So i got screwed basically. I cannot get in touch with management so that I can speak with someone about this so I guess I will just eat this one. Needless to say I won't be back and will not recommend to anyone.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Service

My girlfriends and I decided to try Red Room Tapas Lounge last week. Once we got there we wondered why we had waited so long to try it. We had a great experience ? their tapas was amazing and really reasonably priced. I have to say their signature sangria was hands down the best I have ever had. The wait staff was helpful and polite. I would recommend this place for anyone who is looking to try some place new!
Pros: Sangria, great wait staff

Red Room is a great place to go salsa dancing on Thursday evenings. There is a free dance lesson from 9-10 and then a wonderful mix of salsa, merengue and bachata music until midnight or later. Around midnight the DJ usually starts mixing in hip hop and other music. The food at Red Room is also great. I love the tapas and they serve until late, not your typical bar food. The service and ambience is excellent. My only complaint is I wish it was a smoke free bar.

Even if the food was terrible and the service was awful, I would still probably love this place just for the decor! As soon as you walk in, you just have to take a second to look around at how cool this place is. But decorations aside, this is still a REALLY great place for a night out on the town. I went there the other night and had the delicious swordfish, something I haven?t seen on many menus in Raleigh. Service was so polite and quick, food was really good, and atmosphere was enthralling. I really recommend this place!
Pros: Atmosphere, Unique Menu, Service

I logged on to write this review and was floored by the previous entry. I couldn't believe that someone else just had the same experience. I am shocked that the server(s) at Red Room gets away with treating customers this way.
Don't get me wrong, I was there with a large group and everyone else did have a good time overall. The server for our table was excellent, very polite and attentive. The music was pretty good (if you like only 5-10 seconds of each song being played).
However, I was walking to my table fairly early in the night before it go completely crowded (which it does...). Keep in mind that I was totally sober (had not even finished my one and only drink for the night). One of the cocktail waitresses yanked me by the arm over to the side and told me that I needed to calm down. I was shocked, of course, and she continued to yell at me about how I was being out of control and pushing through the crowd. The closest person was a good 3 feet in front of me. When I responded that I hadn't pushed anyone, she grabbed me by both shoulders and threatened me. At this point, I told her not to touch me and walked off. So she sent the bouncer over to deal with me. He was asking me about the "incident with one of his servers" and was about to kick me out. However, he was very reasonable and very professional about everything, and accepted when I told him that I understood she was doing her job but that I didn't know what she was talking about.
Long story short, I will never set food in Red Room again and will do my best to pass the word along. Normally, I would have told the waitress off and immediately gotten the manager. In fact, she was so physical that I considered getting the police who were standing outside. The one and ONLY reason I did not, was that I didn't want to spoil my friend's celebration. My night was ruined, but hers didn't have to be.
Pros: Access to 3 clubs
Cons: Cocktail server

Some of the staff is amazing and kind. Others are rude and vindictive. I've been to Red Room both as a diner and as a club hopper. I've gone regularly for almost 3 years, and literally spent thousands there.
On Halloween night, it was very crowded and people were pushing each other around left and right (significantly more people than capacity). Someone pushed my friend from behind, but she held her ground and refused to move. Moments later, the "pusher" said to my friend that she was "trying to work here and I can have the bouncer come kick you out". Turns out the rude pusher was actually an employee. What a way to treat your customers! First, what ever happened to saying "excuse me"? Second, how is she supposed to magically know that you aren't some other drunkard pushing her around? Third, what gives you the right to threaten to kick someone out because you can't handle the crowded environment? We paid a cover and for our drinks. How dare she treat us in that way? I've not been back since.
There are a few cocktail girls who are quite grumpy on a regular basis. The food is delightful, and there are several member of the staff who I adore.
In response to the water issue. Bottled water is $3, but tap water is free. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get anyone at the bar to give me tap water in over a year. They claim it's policy -- I guess they don't want to waste their time filling up water glasses. However, tap water is not free, since it's not available!
Pros: Food, atmosphere, management and some staff
Cons: Newer staff, cocktail girls, pricey

We went to Red Room b/c we had a coupon for buy two tapas plates, get two free. However, when it came time to pay, we were informed we couldn't use our coupon and get the drink special- half off a bottle of wine. We had informed our waitress of our coupon as soon as we sat down and she didn't mention that it wouldn't work with the drink special. We never would have ordered a $26 bottle of wine if we had known! We have used these coupons at dozens of restaurants around Raleigh and never been told that we can't use it and take advantage of their "drink" special as well. It's like telling us that we have to choose between $2 drafts or our coupon, or half price sangria or our coupon. I understand if we were combining it with a "food special", but drinks? Come on Red Room, are you that hard up?
Pros: delicious tapas, trendy atmosphere
Cons: poorly run management
