I love El Rodeo! Great for the college student on a budget. Great salsa and queso. You MUST try Tiras de Pollo. It's the absolute best dish there, but you can't go wrong with the cheap combination dinners, and those are extremely affordable at lunch. Margaritas are fabulous, of course. Good, fast service.
Pros: Good, cheap Mexican food
Cons: The smoking section and non-smoking section are separated by a 5 foot tall wall; though I think they may have eliminated the smoking section--otherwise it's AWESOME!

I have eaten for six years at both the Davie Street and Wake Forest Road locations. I prefer the Wake Forest Road location where the staff are very friendly and usually very prompt. They have recently done some upgrading of fixtures at the restaurant. I like that it is open until 11 P.M. I have also gone in there to get takeout, which is appreciated. The food is about the best available in Raleigh (not up to CA or TX standards though). They will make the plates to order, i.e., exchanging rice or salad for beans. I do wish they had a dining room for large groups.
Pros: Food tastes good and is prepared promptly; open late at night
Cons: Need large dining room; could have salsa bar

the food here is okay, nothing amazing. but their service is just horrible. there was one time where we finished eating, got in line to pay up front.. apparenlty their credit card machine was down but they fogot to mention it to the customers. so there was a huge line in the front and everyone was going to the atm or didn tknow what to do. several of us asked to see the manager but he/she never came up to the front to talk to us. i would recommend going to other mexican restaurants in the area that have good food for the same price!

El Rodeo serves standard Mexican restaurant fare at lightning fast speeds (my food has actually beaten my water to the table). You, of course, get your standard chips and salsa to start. My favorite thing, chicken nachos, is no longer on the menu, but they always make it for me when I ask for it. The margaritas are famous for being huge, and they are - they're also very very good. The $6 price tag comes as a shocker for some but I think they're a better deal than the margaritas at most other restaurants. The staff is VERY accomidating for large groups (though we often phone ahead just to make very certain if it's the evening hours), and will gladly do separate checks and credit cards for 20+ people (something you don't often find).

A lot of people I know think El Rodeo is the place to go for cheap, tasty Mexican food. I will agree that the food is cheap, but I haven’t found it to be horribly good any time I’ve been. The food is heavy and greasy and isn’t served with so much as a shred of lettuce to make it remotely digestible.

i went to el rodeo for dinner last night with a group of friends, and once again enjoyed one of their HUGE maragritas. The margaritas are my favorite part of the el rodeo, they are HUGE. The are also expensive, my maragrita was about $9, but well worth it, more expensive than my $7 meal. If you enjoy mexican i would reccommend giving them a try, the food is alays tasty, amd HUGE maragritas!
