I have always been a fan of Quail Ridge Books. The store has a great small town bookstore feel to it, while still having a pretty serious collection of books to choose from. I have gone to see several authors read selections of their works in the flesh at this store, and have enjoyed every minute. I highly reccommend taking a visit when you get a chance, or are lookign for an excellent read.

I love this independent bookstore! They are the premier place in Raleigh for author readings and book signings. Their selection is excellent. They even carry imported British mysteries and Dover thrift classics (so you can pick up school reading quite cheap!). The selection of reading-related gifts is nice. The staff is very helpful and willing to help track down a book you're interested in. The selection of local authors is very strong. They often have more than one edition of a book available, great if you're looking for a nice hardback edition of a classic or a paperback just for a course.
The children's book selection is very nice; I am particularly impressed with the large variety of board books (including the GIANT board books), bathtub books, and foreign-language children's books.

Quail Ridge is an excellent bookstore with a nice atmosphere and unique books that you can't find other places. They have a particularly large selection of Southern writers that is the best in the Triangle. They also have ton of readings by authors. It's a great place to just go and hang out--especially after lunch at Whole Foods right next door. Give your business to a local bookseller rather than the chains. Support Quail Ridge!

The store is large but cozy, and the pace is gentler than you'll find at the big chains. Look for the fireplace beneath the painting of Reynolds Price. There's a vast array of fiction and biographies, with an emphasis on local and regional writers. Mysteries, books on film, history, gay and lesbian titles are also well-stocked.

If you have a book that you are looking to buy in the future, check this place out. You are likely not only to find the book you went in to buy, but a whole host of other books you never knew existed. Looking for a book on North Carolina? Look no further... not only do they have a section dedicated to local authors, you can also find everything North Carolina; cooking, history, hiking, etc. If you are a teacher, they are fabulous about ordering books for you or your students and will match amazon's pricing! If it is not in stock, ask, they will get it for you!! They also have great meet the author nights! We have seen Al Gore, Gov. Hunt, Paula Dean and local writers like Kate Gibson. Don't forget about bookclubs-- they have those too. Ask to be put on the mailing list!

Customer service is the reason why I buy all my books at Quail Ridge. I've sent numerous emails with requests and always gotten a quick reply. The staff will also research items if you don't have all the information. Just send an email with a description and they'll do the rest, and hold the book for you. Plus, as an independent store you are helping the local economy and not some big corporation headquartered in California.

If you are into supporting “the little guy”, then this bookstore is for you. Quail Ridge manages to hold its own against Barnes & Noble and Borders thanks to consistently offering good books, great service, and always having authors come in for talks. Their prices are pretty comparable to the big guys. They tend to be the place to find books by local/regional authors and their author-talk lineup reflects that, although they do get some big name authors too. They’ve also got a good classical music CD section, and the employees know what they are talking about when they recommend a CD to you. They’ve also got a Reader’s Advantage program that you and your entire family can join to receive discounts off every purchase. I think it is $20 a year for it, but it is free if you are a teacher. Plus, it's right next to Whole Foods, which is normally pretty packed for good reason.
