We have relied on Burke Brothers Hardware for over 10 years. In the age of home improvement warehouses, "Burke Brothers" holds its own by offering superior service, competitive prices and the quickest in-and-out of them all. The array of products on the shelf is no less than incredible; the brothers have fine-tuned the store to such a degree that the chance of finding a needed item is better than average. Burke's is the classic convenience store of the hardware world. If you need carpet, appliance or cabinets, you may want to seek out a "home improvement warehouse." If you want a tool, fastener, or garden implement right away, stop by "Burke's!" Pros: Quick service Cons: Limited quantities

I have found the staff at Burke Brothers to be extremely knowledgeable - something one cannot count on at the big-box stores. While they are more expensive (because they can't match the big-box's economies of scale) I gladly trade that for knowledge of their stock and of its various uses. And, often they have those arcane specialty items that big-boxes won't deign to stock (because they won't sell enough of them). They are the modern incarnation of the "neighborhood hardware store" and worth every penny they charge. Pros: Service, service, service. Plenty of parking and great ambiance. Cons: Prices are not as low as the big-box stores. They close earlier than the big-boxes do.

It is refreshing to go to a hardware store and find people who actually know what they are talking about! The employees here will take the time to help you find items in the store and answer any questions you may have (even jotting down notes for you to take home!). The service is always fast and friendly. They even have free popcorn on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which makes it a perfect afternoon stop! Burke Brothers has everything you need! Pros: friendly, knowledgeable employees, good selection of products Cons: none!

The guys/girls that work there are eager to help, and know what they are talking about. They can tell you how to fix the job correctly, and will spend the time to show you how its done. They are there to help, and it really shows. I love this hardware store!

If you are looking for a hardware store where the workers will recognize you if you go there enough, you’re looking for Burke Brothers Hardware. The prices won’t beat Lowe’s or Home Depot, but the service definitely will. An added bonus is that all of the guys there can actually help you out when you have a question about how to fix something and they treat you like you’d want to be treated. They also have one of the cheapest prices for propane, so stop using those expensive “Blue Rhino” propane exchanges and take your tank to be refilled here on the cheap. There are never any long lines (maybe one person in front of you) and it has that “small town” hardware store feel. The only thing you should be sure to do is to park on the side and not in the front. If you park in the front, you’ll be forced to back out into the heavy traffic on Hillsborough Street. Yikes!
