We used AAA Vacations to book our honeymoon and were very pleased. Our travel agent was friendly and very helpful in helping us choose all of the different aspects of our vacation. She was always more than willing to ask questions when I called later after booking. She was able to get us a better deal than a general travel agent that we had talked to. She even called to follow up after our trip, which I really appreciated. You can just walk in--no appointment necessary. We will go here again to book another vacation.

We got one of our dogs from the SPCA and were very pleased with the service we received there as well as out pet. they try to match animals with appropriate owners, and make sure that the pets are going to good homes that are going to be appropriate for them. the adoption cost was pretty high for a mixed breed dog, but he came healthy and with all his shots and neutering, which would have cost mroe than the cost of adoption.

More
Triangle Family Services caters to numerous families and children throughout the Triangle. They hold classes to help men who have been convicted of domestic violence. They also have counseling for domestic violence victims, people with HIV/AIDS, children and many more groups. There is a large outreach to the Hispanic community as well. What caught my attention was that they offered financial counseling and informational classes on finances, which is often overlooked in disenfranchised communities. Anyone looking for a volunteer opportunity would do well to check into Triangle Family Services.

More
The Raleigh Jaycees are a kindhearted group of people who enjoy doing charity work all year. They are probably most known for two of their biggest events, Goodfellows and the Turkey Shoot.
Goodfellows raises money to take over 100 underprivileged kids on a shopping spree at Belk’s around Christmas. The Turkey Shoot is held at the State Fair each year and the money raised is given to local charities.

More
Tucked away on a back street that runs parallel to Hillsborough is a quaint piece of history you are going to want to visit: the Joel Lane House. Its owner, Joel Lane of course, sold the land that eventually became the city of Raleigh, and his original house (though undergoing extensive renovations several times) is the oldest house in town. Literally. I love just walking around the outside of the house, rambling through the herb garden and visiting the sundial, walking through the back yard court and sitting under the pergolas, which in spring is shaded by sweet Chinese wisteria, or just taking pictures of the fragrant old fashioned roses that line the picket fence surrounding the home. The price of admission to see the inside may feel a little expensive, but the home uses the admission solely for upkeep and repairs. Also, be sure to check on the schedule. The hours are a little strange.
