We go to moonlight several times a month. It's especially pleasant when you can sit outside and relax- the closest thing Raleigh has to eating at an Italian cafe. The food is spectacular! The pizzas and salads((homemade dressings) are really the best in town-seriously. I have always had very attentive service here. I was shocked to read the unfavorable review above, for we have never had any problems w/service. This place is an undeservedly well-kept secret. It deserves to be wildly popular. I can't say enough good things about it and I am a very fussy former restaurant critic.

Drove here around 5pm during the week and thought we were in the wrong place because it is small and unassuming. We walked in and thought the decor was casual but cozy. We sat down at a booth near the front and enjoyed kind, attentive service throughout. The menu looked great, and I ended up choosing the mezaluna calzone with pesto, cheese, and pinenuts, and my friend chose a stromboli and added prosciutto. When they came out to our table, both were steaming hot, BEAUTIFULLY made (you could tell they make them by hand and roll them up so nicely), and we couldn't wait to dig in. We both devoured them and I have been dreaming about that calzone ever since! Can't wait to go back! More expensive than your usual pizza place (ended up costing me about $15 with tip), but soooo worth it!!!
Pros: FOOD, service, parking, decor
Cons: a little pricier and not in the prettiest part of downtown

So Mellow Mushroom was CROWDED as usual, so my husband remembered Moonlight. So we drive over to Morgan Street and walked right in the door and was sat down at a table on the patio within minutes. Unfortunatley, that was the only great thing, b/c the service was horrible! We had to flag a waiter down to take our drink order after waiting patiently for approx. 20-25 minutes. At that point, we figured it was best to go ahead and order everything which we told was not a problem. Another 35 minutes or so, the pizza arrives. Only another problem, we never received our two appetizers that we ordered. Nor was anyone at our table ever asked if they needed another drink. Finally got more drinks after asking about them. The water came out in a grungy looking glass with no ice. My friend said it tasted like toilet water! So she asked for a diet coke. Came out in yet another grungy glass with no ice. This time, the drink was flat and had no fizz what so ever. Third times a charm - the sweet tea was decent. Never during our visit did we complain. We only raised our hand to get someone's attention when we saw someone and needed something. Luckily the pizza wasn't bad. Pricing was average - not too steep for downtown. And lastly, our waiter could have cared less about us - he never checked on us, we basically had to work to get service. He literally only took our order and just disappeared. Too bad for him, b/c I tip well for great service! We really had a bad experience there and have no intentions of returning. We will take our chances and wait an hour and a half at Mellow Mushroom :o)
Pros: Price, Location, Decent Pizza
Cons: SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE!!!!!

Best pizza in Raleigh!!! I would order it to go because the furniture is not very comfortable. I will eat here tonight probably even though I know it's not comfy.

Offer a pizza called "Greenhouse Effect" that can be ordered with no cheese. Other vegetarian (not vegan) options on the menu as well.

I think that this place has the best pizza in Raleigh, and the service is always outstanding. It is also very clean.

Tasty Pizza, with any type topping you can image, made specially for you! We always get half no-cheese pizza with avocado and pistachios (really is tremendously good!) and half whatever combo the the cheese-and-meat-eater wants. Great selection of beverages, interesting servers (in a good way!), and eclectic atmosphere in an arty spot near downtown. The food may be a tiny bit pricey, but sooo worth it if you want to spend time with a friend, share some laughs and even share some tears over pizza and then coffee (as we and our sister have done too many times before). The booths feel really neat and secluded from each other which allows for rockin privacy too. Or dine on the patio when the weather's nice and enjoy the view toward downtown. Love this place for sooo many reasons.
Pros: Amazing topping selection and great environment
Cons: A teensy bit pricey

I get salads to go at lunch time fairly often (the Greek Salad with chicken is fabulous), and find the service friendly and quick. Most of the folks there remember what I order, so it's easy to feel like a "regular". I like going to dinner there when I want a casual, low key atmosphere where you can have a conversation. Good beer on tap!
Pros: Good service, good food, quiet and nice atmosphere

I accidently came across this restaruant. Since my discovery, I never EVER went back to Mellow Mushroom. My experience there was awful, food was so mediocre, service was slow and absolutely rude, I felt pressured to eat and leave so they can seat more guests. I think I may have had better pizza out of the freezer. Moonlight's service was friendly and energetic. I always have a friendly chat with them. The decor was vibrant and cheerful. I took a tour of all the art on their walls while I waited for my food to arrive...and the food presentation looked like art itself. The pizza was delicious! I love going there and not having to wait. I hope this secret doesn't get out...I would hate to see the tranquil ambience to change. My only problem with them is that they are not open for lunch
All in all, super experience.
Pros: relaxed environment, Inexpensive, GREAT food
