I had never been to a real hair salon before I walked into Six Degrees. The ladies are great. The go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and each stylist has a unique personality that compliments their talents. I was very impressed by the cleanliness and new age ambience. I will never go to another salon. Oh yah, and the view is unbelievable. Thanks girls.

On a rainy night when I couldn't think of what to get a friend on her birthday, I walked into Ambrosia Gardens. I was astounded with the arrangement I had 20 minutes later. For a reasonable price ($25), I got an arrangement that was really a work of art. The woman who helped me asked what the occasion was and created a very unique bouquet. I don't know what flowers were used, but they were all colors of the rainbow and all different sizes. I couldn't have imagined a better bunch of flowers. I don't want to call it an arrangement because it was more than that. I didn't think I would like an eclectic set of flowers, but I LOVED it!
PROS: Beautiful & bright flowers, Wonderful people
CONS: Parking difficult

This isn't an easy place to find. The entrance is from the alley and the store is in the basement, but this is a GREAT specialty bookstore. They have a wide variety of New England guidebooks, as expected, which was what I wanted. However, they also have every other country you could ever think of. Well, at least that I could think of! Kenya? Yes! China? Of course! Brazil? You bet!
They have a few knick knacks but mostly books for travel and really good maps. Be sure to chart your way to this place before you head out for parts unknown. I often go just to dream by browsing their shelves.
(I think the web address is wrong--it doesn't work now)
PROS: HUGE selection of travel books & maps
CONS: tricky to find, parking a hassle--Portsmouth!

This is a quaint gift store located on a side street in Portsmouth. The owner of the store introduced herself right away and tried to direct us to our needs. She had the most interesting merchanside. She had beautiful handcrafted jewelrey and suncatchers. They were hand made locally, in the U.S. and Canada. It was one of the few shops in the area where I did not see the same type of merchandise. There were price points for all. It was a fun place to shop. Looking forward to going back. I bought these fabulous glass starfish.

This store is good if you like dogs. You don't need to own one, as most of the items in here are actually useless for dogs. All sorts of pictures, shirts, frames, and other items that have various dogs on them make up most of the stock. I did see some play toys last time i was there, as well as a few patrons brought their own dogs in. Be wary while shopping here, as the items tend to be the type that can get associated with a "cat lady", but for dog owners. Items like dachunshund salt and pepper shakers, where the spice comes out of a hole on the tail end of the dog may not go over well with some people. It's a cute store to stop in every now and then, but there is no need to shop here continuously unless you like overkill.
