This place is cursed by being one of the best restaurants during the winter. The ambiance and the food are so perfect for a romantic winter date. The lobster Mac and Cheese is awesome. I am sure it is great in the summer but it is incredible in the winter.
Pros: Everything
Cons: nothing

Being a pizza lover, I give the pizza top honors. The crust is perfectly doughy and chewy. The ingredients are fresh and authentic - everything from the real Italian sausage to the perfectly melted cheese.
The staff is very friendly and also helpful in pointing out the specialties. During the 15 minutes that I was there, many colorful people stopped in to say hi to the staff, grab a slice and dish the latest gossip.
I highly recommend and will be going there again soon!
Pros: Pizza Crust, Friendly Staff, Fun Customers
Cons: , Paper plates

The portobello mushroom sandwich is wonderful, as are the fish and chips.
It can be a bit smokey after 9pm, but it's a decent, relaxing place to go.
Pros: beer selection, fish-n-chips
Cons: smokey

As far as pizza goes, there is only one real pizzeria in the portsmouth area. Ken has brought a taste of new york to our fine New England town and his pies are better than anything North of Boston. Ken combines a sweet sauce and crispy thin crust with a great blend of cheeses. Everything else in the greater portsmouth area is ketchup and cheese on bread. As someone who currently lives in New York, it is nice to go home and visit my family and still be able to enjoy authentice New York style pizza.

I've recently had the pleasure of entertaining some clients at Anthony's. From the moment I walked through the doors I knew we were all in for a treat. And boy were we! The place was packed, yet with the service and attention we received, it felt like we were the only diners there. The wine list is fantastic and the food speaks for itself. Our server was extremely knowledgable about all the menu items as well as all the wines on the extensive list. The host made us feel like royalty - coming by several times throughout the course of the evening to make sure we were enjoying ourselves to the max. Hands down, this is absolutely the best restaursant on the seacoast. I'm not sure how anyone could have had a bad experience there. Maybe you should have gone to Denny's??
Pros: Valet Parking
Cons: no French wine, Good luck getting..., ...in on the weekend!

We go here once or twice a week -- our favorite hangout in the area. It?s much more of a real neighborhood place than other downtown restaurants and pubs, though it does get its share of tourists. There are many local regulars, and many semi-regulars from the naval base, in a wide variety of ages (though Saturday nights tend to be on the 20-something side).
.
The food is tasty. My favorite is the O'Malley sandwich: smoked turkey, coleslaw, and melted swiss with a thousand-island dressing. My husband loves their burgers and their Irish specialties, like stew, shepherd's pie, and corned beef with cabbage. We both love the Dublin fries and the stir-fried veggies. Molly's also has our favorite beer, Old Thumper, an English-style pale ale, on draft -- the only place you can get it besides the brewery. They have a nice variety of other drafts, including, of course, Guinness.
.
The service is usually good. If it?s packed, of course, things take longer; Molly's is in a historic building with a nice crowded pub feel, so if the seats are full of rowdies, it can be hard for the staff to squeeze through.
.
The live Irish music sessions are fantastic: Thursdays (7-10) and Saturdays (8-11) a fluctuating group of musicians plays traditional music (mostly Irish, but also Scottish and English folk, with some modern but in-keeping-with-tradition pieces). Depending on who?s there on a given day, there's more or less "tunes" (just instruments) versus "songs" (with lyrics). The musicians are GOOD. There's a huge traditional music scene in New England, and some of the best are locals; others drive many miles to play there. Occasionally, internationally successful musicians drop in. I never cared about Irish music before my first session at Molly's, but now I'm hooked.
.
Molly Malone's is a treasure. Why aren't you there already? See you at 8.
Pros: Relaxing, fun, great music, good food
Cons: gets busy some weekend nights

They have the best burgers i've ever had. The Bow St burger is classic, with mushrooms and onions and bacon and swiss. The fries are hand cut and great. The buffalo wings are sooo good. They have a huge beer selection. The staff was great and knowledgeable in helping out with picking a beer. Upstairs is a cool space, kinda lounge-ish , while downstairs is comfortable. Definitely a place to check out if you come to Portsmouth.
Pros: best burgers and wings
Cons: food stops at 10pm

My wife and I have been to The Wellington Room three or four times. Each experience has been amazing. You can tell when a restaurant has a great chef. Each bite doesn't taste good, it explodes in your mouth with many different flavors. The Wellington Room is that kind of restaurant. It isn't cheap ($$$), but it is a always wonderful.
Pros: Food, Water View, Romantic

I love bringing my grandchildren to this restaurant. They love the way the animals talk or pop up at you. They even have flapping fish and a talking tree. The food is delicious and reasonably priced and the waitstaff is always courteous.
