Meier and Frank has so many sales and there are always coupons in the paper, I couldn't imagine paying full price for anything there. I think there are some great deals to be had if you use coupons and watch for the sales. They have a great selection of items and they are all good quality. I am so sad that the down town store will no longer have Santa Land. My kids have loved going there to get their pictures taken with Santa each year and ride the monorail.

Very good selection of good quality sporting good equipment and auto parts. Lots of ski equipment, clothing, shoes, sports equipment, exercise gear and workout clothes, knives, guns, fishing gear, and the list goes on and on. Great place to shop for a gift for the hunter or fisherman in your life. I'm not an outdoorsy type person, but it's fun to look at all the unique things in this store.

Every non-commercial dollar store has it's speciality. There are three things I look for at this one-cellular accessories, household fix-it supplies, and candles.
You can get just about any cellular accessory you can imagine at this store...covers, carriers, earpieces, hands free kits, cell batteries...everything that's cheap on Ebay but you pay through the nose for shipping you can get here for 99 cents and NO shipping! Also, unlike some similar stores, they carry most brands...even the ones that aren't compatible with each other.
I get a great deal on household fix-up stuff here too. Last week I bought a new faucet handle for my sink. I"ve gotten duct tape in every color, latches, and other sundries once sold at Newberry's and the 5 & Dime.
For the home decorators, they have two supermarket length aisles of candles and candle holders. From floaters to 5-wickes this is your one-stop candle shop.
I also find lots of meds here...from generic gasX to cold medicine. I also noticed (why, I don't know since I'm too old to need them!) that they sell pregnancy tests for a buck here too....considerable cheaper than most retail stores. I guess you could call this store pregnant with possibilities!

At the Dollar Tree, EVERYTHING is a dollar. Some things are definitely overpriced at a dollar, and others are a pretty good deal.
Kids toys usually last a day or two, but every once in a while we find something there that makes it a week or two. Hey! It's a dollar!
I have found some great scrap booking items and made really cute gift bags from canvas totes and fun pampering items for under around $8 each. And by the way, these were not party gift bags, but gifts for teen aged girls on their 18th birthday, and they were very well received.
Just today I got Easter Baskets and lots of filler items like sidewalk chalk, water squirters, bubbles, coloring books, cute body scrubbers for the bath or shower, Easter themed pencils and 3 bags of 18 count eggs, all for $16. Did I mention the "baskets" are sand pails with shovels?
However, I should mention that I didn't buy any candy there because I really didn't recognize the brands and the chocolate looked very cheap and waxy. I will fork out $1.50 a bag at another store for the name brand stuff.
The Dollar Tree is a great store to check out every 2 or 3 weeks, just to see what they have in. You never know what you might find there.

If you are having a party, especially for a child, the Dollar Tree has a great assortment of stuff. Otherwise, most of their merchandise is rather cheap and is definitely worth the whole dollar you pay for it with! No real bargains here, being I consider a bargain when you find something of value at a good price.

At the homely corner of 82nd and Tillamook sits Portland Closeout. This Asian run store, with rows of kids bikes out front, has eveything from toilet paper to pots for plants to the 1995 cassette tape of singers in other languages. I have wandered through the tight isles with wonder at how much stuff was crammed into this medium-sized building. It was fun to explore the various levels of quality and large range of product the was stacked before me. Great place for that off0beat gift or wanderlust adventure purchase that you'll have to rationalize at home.
