Excellent Mexican Food 12/22/2005

Ever since we moved out of the Sellwood area our eating out expenses have dramatically dropped. We used to go to the Iron Horse at least once a week. The food is fabulous Mexican and the atmosphere is the same. They have a good variety of choices made up typical Mexican fashion. They also make an excellent margarita and the relaxing casual dinner experience can't be beat. It can get crowded and the waiting area is small... so keep that in mind and call ahead. more

The food they have is pretty mediocre. Their dishes are lacking flavour and do not inspire. The food is not the best, but it is not horrible. The cuisine is much like Chevy's. The atmosphere is what you would expect and is nothing special. I would only recommend this place if you do not want do not want to drive far for sit down Tex-Mex. more

Pretty darn good 8/25/2005

but good luck getting a table on the weekends. Here's the bottom line, food is great but the atmosphere is lacking. Good luck getting a parking spot, and expect a wait. Bathrooms suck, and speaking of that I witnessed a kitchen staff member use the restroom and leave without washing his hands! I didn't eat anything that night.... more

Good food, not so much atmosphere 6/9/2005

There are two reasons for going to the Iron Horse. One is to drink margaritas while sitting outside, and the other is to get one of the build-your-own taco platters. The Roasted Potato Tacos are incredible; the Lemon Garlic Chicken ones were a little dry. The Iron Horse is regularly listed as one of Portland's best Mexican restaurants, but I don't know if I would go that far. It's a great place to eat if you're in SE, but if you've got a choice, go to Esparza's instead! more
