A great place for kids and adults. The prices are a bit high, but definitely worth it. There are areas for all ages from infants to adults, with plenty of learning opportunities. They change exhibits frequently, and have some very interesting ones. My personal favorite is grossology where they tell you about all the gross things that happen with your body and other places, like all about boogers. Definitely a fun treat for the kids.

This is a great facility for hosting a private party. The pool is spacious and is kept at a warm temperature. The party room is rented only for an hour with additional set up time which is sometimes a bit limiting when the time runs out too soon. But it seems to work out when the party continues in the pool or gym area.

The Eastbank Esplanade is one of my favorite places in Portland. Finished in 1998 and named after Mayor Vera Katz, this relaxing 1.5 mile trail connects the east bank of the Willamette River with the west bank. The Esplanade incorporates 4 bridges into it's trail, going under the Morrison and Burnside Bridges and crossing over the Hawthorne and Steel Bridges to form a 3 mile loop.
Along the Eastbank are statues and artwork giving a creative flair that is so uniquely Portland. Before the Esplanade, the river bank was littered with trash. A collection of shady dwellings and home to the homeless, disgruntled and drug addicted. It was a haven for alcohol parties and violence and not the safest place to be after dark. As John Anderson of the New Colonist Paper wrote, the Eastbank Esplanade truly does reclaim "a disregarded urban space."
I loved to walk the Esplanade during my lunch. It was just the hike that I needed to relax and clear my mind before I dove head first into my busy afternoon agenda. If I didn't get to go during my lunch, I would take the long way home after work and roller blade the 3 mile trail just to feel the cool river breeze and to see the evening lights on the water.
The Esplanade isn't just used by walkers and roller blades though, bikers, skateboarders, picnickers and fisher are also welcome, making the Eastbank a one of the best parts of the Portland waterfront.

My son has gone here 3 years running and has enjoyed it each and every time. He looks forward to the next summer when he can go again. They have everything most camps do, horseback riding, hiking, swimming and much more.
Since it is geared to diabetics they do help educate the kids regarding the disease and how to best take care of themselves.
Here the staffers have just as much fun as the children which makes the experience even better for the campers!

Citybikes is a concept leftover from the 80's in Portland...at a time when cooperative groceries and communities abounded. It is a good one...and an affordable option to the some of the other bike shops in town.
Citybikes will both fix your bike with a guarantee for an affordable price or they will offer to teach you to do it yourself.
Their classes are great too and they, are, of course, one of the sponsors of Critical Mass which promotes non-fossil fueled modes of transporation.
Need your bike tuned up for spring? This is the place to take it!

I’m partial to small, local businesses so this little store located across the street from my former high school has a special place in my heart. It is a tiny shop, but it is full to the rafters with soccer gear, everything you could possibly need to play soccer. It has all the top soccer brands from America and Europe but don’t go looking for anything other than soccer gear, you won’t find it here.

The guy behind the counter was not friendly, but as I approached with caution and asked fr a very specific part for my 15 year old bike, he said give me a minute, went into the bag, pulled out a bin, and found multiple options for me one of which was new in box old stock from the same era as the part i was replacing. You won't find this kind of attention to detail anywhere else in town, as far as I've seen. They specialize in track bikes and track specific parts, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back to look for parts for my road bike.
Pros: goldmine for rare parts, particularly NOS
Cons: guy with the pony tail is a lil snooty

Went there to check out their scooters and man do they have a cool shop! You walk in and you're amazed with a sea of scooters! The most I've ever seen in one place. Dudes were cool there and really knew what they were talking about. They were obviously riders themselves and were able to fit me up just with the right scooter for my needs. Overall it was a great experience.
Pros: Has to be one of the largest scooter stores in the entire US
Cons: Lots to choose from

I bought my snowboard bindings at Signal last May and the gentleman who helped me was extremely helpful and explained the differences between all the brands and types of bindings. Just yesterday I went in to look for a new board and the young woman who helped me was very knowledgeable and didn't pressure me to make a decision right away. I left the store without buying a board (but having purchased a jacket and some other items), and called back later in the day after doing some board research online to ask her opinion. She was very nice and said to call back anytime. I love this store!
Pros: Smart, helpful staff that actually use the products they're selling. Great sales.
Cons: Items are only affordable (for me) when they're on sale.
