I went here for my 21st birthday. Not because they wouldn't let me in before -- but because they would, being a restaurant-pub, and have always been wonderful and friendly. (For the birthday, they treated me to one of their famous beers.) It's one of the first places I ever saw in Portland, being right across the street from the old Hollywood Theatre, where I first visited Portland to attend the Lovecraft Film Festival. The Laurelwood's warm charm has never failed to cheer me. The wood interior and breathtaking views of the glass-sheathed brewery are always visually appealing, and the friendly atmosphere -- family-friendly, but uncrowded -- makes it a good place to go alone or with friends.
I think it's either smoke-free or has a big nonsmoking area.
Food here includes a decent range of options -- many vegetarian, many meat. It's pub food with a high-quality, Northwest spin. High-quality also bumps up the price. The place is pretty affordable, though; expect a meal for $10, and a fine award-winning beer (brewed about twenty feet away from you!) for $3-4, or a cocktail for more like $7.
It's where I'd take a relative in town, or a visiting friend who I wanted to be caught by the heart and stay in Portland for a while. The Laurelwood manages to have a slick look AND a lot of heart -- a rare combination that I'm going for, more and more.

The Lucky Lab lives up to its name: there is an assortment of Labrador dog pictures lining the back wall and on a nice day, everyone sitting outside has brought their own lucky dog with them.
At a convenient location near downtown, but not in the heart of congestion... the brewpub is a nice place to gather after work or on the weekends. A large roomy interior and covered exterior gives one a variety of seating options. The food is mostly grilled bento style dishes that taste great with their superb selection of micro brewed beers.

I will never eat at this place again. I can see now why all their locations in our area are closing. We decided to give it a try and were disappointed. We got there and were seated. They asked what we wanted to drink and a friend of ours wanted a beer. They brought our drinks but not the beer. We ordered our food and got some kind of garlic bread or something. It was ok but really greasy. Then they brought out our food. The pizza was NASTY. Seriously not good. Mabey it was a bad pan that we got but part of the pan or the cleaning stuff on it was coming off onto our pizza. Then we had ordered
the mac and cheese for our son, who's 20 months. We figured it be this little thing of mac and cheese. It was this big bowl of what looked like generic kraft mac and cheese. It looks like they cooked a box of mac and cheese and put the whole thing in the bowl. My son loves mac and cheese but he wouldn't eat this. My husband was pretty upset and spoke to a manager about our pizza. She was nice and took the price of the
pizza off and also the mac and cheese (which we hadn't complained about). This is definitely a place that I will not be revisiting.

BJ’s Pizza has great food at a reasonable price. I love there pizza and I get it every time I go. They also have great desert. I would especially recommend getting a Pazookie for dessert, you won’t regret it. Also a great place to take a group for a meal and the service has always been great when I have been there.
