Caye's Aquarium

I have read some of the reviews for Caye's all of the positive ones are right on. I have used Caye's for the last 25 years and their fish are healthy and they have never steered me wrong. I did read a review by someone complaining about price. Quite frankly those of us who love our fish will pay anything for healthy fish. Caye's pricing is very fair and their knowledge is free. The person who wrote the negative review had a hard time even spelling. Makes me wonder if it was a true complaint or just a bad pet store being grumpy that their service and quality is not as good as Caye's. Keep up the great work Caye's now that my daughter is old enough to purchase her own fish you have to be around for at least another thirty years. Thank you for all your help, experience and dedication to those who want to learn and build their aquariums. You have saved my fish on numerous occasions and have taught me volumes about fish habitat. more

dont buy from cayes there prices are outrageouse whatever your looking for i can guarenty that sea horse has it much cheaper and better quality. these guys are selling banded cat shark eggs for 40$ everywhere else sells them for 20-28$ more

Love going to Caye's. Great service, prices. They always have an answer and are will to go the extra mile to help you out! It's just fun to wander around and see all the cool fish. Especially the huge shark!!!! more

Very friendly and helpful staff. They didn't have the fish I wanted it stock but were able to get it in just a few days. They are the only place in Portland I will go for fish. more

I stopped in at Caye's and told them I was setting up a new aquarium, could they give me some tips on plants suitable for a Betta, filtration, etc. Walked out with a few plants and some free gravel from one of their established tanks to get the bacteria jump started in my tank. That, to me, is beyond helpful and they now have a new loyal customer because of it. I read in another review here that the prices were a bit high... I will always pay more when I receive intelligent advice in a clean store that provides quality service. BTW the prices I paid for the plants at Caye's were far less than in another store that I visited 20 minutes before I got to Caye's. Thumbs up! more

I walk in and get immediate attention. The store is very clean. The staff is very friendly. The fish are healthy. All the things that I look for when shopping.\r \r I've been a customer for 10+ years. And will remain so for as long as they are in business.\r \r Their prices are similar to the chain pet stores... some things a little more, others a little less. Seriously? \r I've had an aquarium for years, one place where I've had the worst service was ""The Wet Spot"" I spent 45 Min waiting for help after I asked several times, there were 5 people on staff and 2 customers. The Wet Spot may have more fish but they are more expensive, smaller and the entire staff are rude!\r There 6 fish stores in the PDX area besides petco/smart. Caye's has the most healthy fish, the cleanest tanks and the most friendly staff. I rather wait for a fish to come in to Caye's then ever set foot in TWS ever again Pros: Great Staff, Healthy Fish Cons: A little pricey more

Cayes is a great store. highly suggest you give it a look. The staff there are always helpful and knowledgable. Shane has taken hours out of his time to help me understand saltwater and reef tanks. I have been to a few other local shops around PDX and have yet to get the kind of service I get from Shane and his wife. Some times the selection of SW fish can be slim but they are always quick to tell me when the next shipment is coming in or order a fish for me. hats off to Cayes. There are a wide selection of fish ranging from freshwater to saltwater fish. The staff are knowleable and are willing to takes time to help you understand and answer all your questions. The tanks are clean and the fish are healty. Pros: Best locally owned place to get fish. Cons: Usally cost more then other places, but I think it's worth it. more

They have a good size salt selection. I will admit the the Animal house has more (another of my fav. places) but I like how its more spaced out, and you can really see what your getting. The they're corals... lovely.... Their tanks are always clean and their fish healthy. In fact I was in today and they were cleaning. Tammy is always so pachent with me and always answers all my questions politely. I've been dreaming of setting up a salt, and they are so nice they are letting me make my own set up and do payments!! I can now venture out of the fresh water world and feel the tides and flow of salt! They are really nice and remember you, and thats a great feeling that your a person and not a doller sign walking in. They treat the fish excelent and I've never had a problem with any of them. You've got to stop in just to see the nerf shark they have. Not for sale, he's their baby. It'll make you dream of a salt water too. more

I had to chime in when I saw the obviously false ""review"" by someone from ""the wet spot"". \r I have been going to Caye's for at least 20 years. It is a family run business and the service has always been excellent and knowledgable. I recently got back into owning an aquarium after several years, and I went to Caye's and it was the same way I remembered it. Not one dirty tank. In fact I have never seen a dirty tank there. I also recently went to ""the wet spot"" because they had a certain fish I wanted in stock. I was also impressed by their clean tanks and lots of them. But the big difference I found was the size of fish. Caye's usually has fish that have grown a bit and are able to make the transition to a new environment much better, whereas ""TWS"" mostly had fish that didn't look much more than frys. 2 of the 3 fish I got there died within 2 days. I will not even compare the knowledgeable employees because its not a contest. I would give ""TWS"" a 5, but Caye's is the tops. Pros: Always very clean tanks, bigger fish and great, knowledgeable service Cons: could have a bit more selection to choose from more

I've been using these folks for years, and I have to say they have the best customer service, are very knowledgable on their fish, and really care about how you are taken care of. They also have the best selection in town. Do I seem bias? Well I am. I wont buy my fish anywhere else. Pros: great quality, great quantity more

I've been shopping for freshwater fish and supplies from them for years. Good service, variety of fish does change and they take care to sell only healthy fish. Novice to long time aquarium lover, you should find it here. more

When visiting aquarists come to town, I always take them to Caye's. Like The Wet Spot, Bell's and Family Pet Center, they are among the finest of the local fish stores.
