My first trip to OMSI was a school sleepover, 15 years ago. When I was in college I volunteered around the museum teaching people of all ages and demonstrating science to them. I love everything about OMSI - it reminds me that there is a kid in all of us desiring to learn as much as we can about the world around us. Whether it be physics, chemistry, biology, human development, technology, industry, etc., the INTERACTIVE HANDS ON exhibits inspire and help me learn by doing and make difficult or abstract concepts easy to learn and understand.

We struggled with the issue of Wheelchair access. While everything was listed as "accessible" the person in the chair could rarely interact with displays. OMSI does not allow a discount for attendants to enter with a disabled person, making it even more expensive.
The things that were accessible were wonderful, but the Childrens area is lacking greatly in access. We will return because my daughter did enjoy the things we could do, buit as she gets bigger we will drop our pass because there is not enough she can reach on her own.
Pros: Kids play/interactive area
Cons: Poor wheelchair access

OMSI is a great learning experience...especially if you have kids. I used to visit OMSI all the time when I was little with my classes and my parents. A few months ago when I visited, I still found it to be interesting. They also have lectures, which are geared more towards adults. The OMSI-MAX has always been a safe bet..they always have good movies.
Pros: Great museum, IMAX

With my ASTC membership I decided to check this place out and this was by far the best museum I have visited in the NW. The place is huge, packed with tons of hands on exhibits and a very very friendly team of staff. The museum was very easy to navigate through and provided a days worth of fun for me and my family!!!!

This museum will get you through long Oregon winters and keep your children busy and occupied. The under five area has recently been rennovated and is now located upstairs. They have removed most of the Busytown items but have a whole room devoted to Arts/Crafts and learning areas. They have animals for children to greet and pet and there are always movies showing in the OMNIMAX theatre that are appropriate for the whole family. It is well worth to spend the money for a family membership. You will visit many times a month with a small child and it is a great way for your kiddo to run around and have fun in a contained area.

A trip to OMSI is a fun and educational event for the whole family. The Science Playground is my youngest daughters favorite place at OMSI. It is located on the second floor and was created for children ages 0-6. Sandland and Waterworks are popular interactive exhibits in the Science Playground. Discovery Lab is filled with activities for little ones to do, including making flubber! Turbine Hall, located on the first level, is fun for older children and adults. It is full of hands on activities that will really make you think. Don't forget to watch a movie in the OMNIMAX dome theater while you are there. You can sit back and watch a movie on the entire dome shaped ceiling. The Planetarium is also fun to watch Laser Light shows or space science movies. OMSI is expensive, but definitely worth the money. Wear comfortable shoes and plan to spend a few hours there (at least), if you would like to see everything.

Located on the east side of the Willamette River with a terrific view of downtown Portland's skyline and the bridges that connect it to the east side, this is about what you'd expect in a city science museum. It features the city's only OmniMAX dome theater, but it's generally not used for anything but science and nature films (meaning that it ignores more of the popular OmniMAX titles shown in more mainstream OmniMAX cinemas nationwide). Finally, as with all science museums, time your visit appropriately or you'll be wading knee-deep through a sea of screaming children.

A great place for kids and adults. The prices are a bit high, but definitely worth it. There are areas for all ages from infants to adults, with plenty of learning opportunities. They change exhibits frequently, and have some very interesting ones. My personal favorite is grossology where they tell you about all the gross things that happen with your body and other places, like all about boogers. Definitely a fun treat for the kids.
