Might be one of the smallest Sushi places in town but it's family owned and they serve some the freshest fish around. It's my favorite right next to Koji's and Masu.

Unbeknownst to most (as it looks, at first, like just another coffeehouse) this is actually a really nice place to have dinner!
Back to Back is a worker-owned cafe connected with the IWW -- the ultimate Portland liberal coffeehouse -- and it's nice, unpretentious, and serves up one of the cheapest and best hearty meals to be found anywhere. The location is atmospheric and down-to-earth appealing. Sandwiches run from $3-5 and soups and side orders are equally cheap. Drinks aren't too expensive either. I bought a whole dinner here, including a glass of mead (!) and tip, for under $10. It's extremely veggie-friendly -- I don't believe they serve any meat, but they do have cheese and egg items for the animal protein-inclined.

It's decked out with enough couches, chairs and pillows that you'll think you walked into a palace, and enough bookshelves that you'll think you walked into a library . . . Oh, wait! You did! This cafe's located in the old Hollywood library building, and it's a very nice space, managing to be large and wide and still feel potentially intimate.
Coffee drinks here are well-made, with house-whipped cream available on request, and they have both business-lunch items and dessert items -- including fancy cakes and a few vegan options, like many of Portland's fine establishments do.
Everything is reasonably priced. The ambiance is casual in the afternoons and I'm told they have shows here in the evenings sometimes.

I discovered this bakery after a disappointing trip to a nearby toy store that didn‘t have what we wanted. It really helped lift our spirits to enjoy their great pastries and friendly service. Even their name is fun for young kids. You can taste the good ingredients and freshness of their products. The prices area bit high but worth it.

I love Peets Coffee and Tea. They brew some of the best around, and you can get a french press of your favorite bean, for just a couple of dollars. They have a great group of people working at each Peets I've been to and I would love to get more people hooked on their good coffee! Check it out if you're in town, they are all over Portland!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in portland. The food is always prepared with great care and is always extremely tasty. The lamb is their specialty and is very good. The have lots of options for meat lovers, lots of different types of chicken, beef and lamb. It's family owned and operated and the service is always great.

This has got to be downtown P-Town's best kept secret!
From 3pm until their late 2am close, Metro Pizza offers $1 pizza by the slice!!! And we're not just talking about dinky little cheese or pepperoni here...chicken, vegan, gourmet of all types...what ever fancies the chef of the day...and of course, cheese and pepperoni with generous helpings of cheese and meat! Sometimes I'll just pop in and say "suprise me" ...and they always do!
The cheap pizza is fresh too..made as it's needed so it hasn't been sitting around since the lunch rush.
Also, you can eat there or get it to go (too many cheap eats are eat-in only!)
Of course, there's traditional and market price items on the menu..full pies, calzones, and the like...but nothing beats that $1 full-size slice.
Also, the owners are a mother/daughter team...so it's BOTH woman-owned AND family owned!
Check them out...you're tummy will be happy and so will your wallet.
