In a recent trip to Pittsburgh, PA my friends and I stopped for coffee in a little coffee house called Kiva Han Coffee. It’s a really cool independent coffee house with a unique atmosphere and appearance. While I personally cannot vouch for the iced coffee, my friends all enjoyed their coffee, and I enjoyed my Italian Soda. (it was a touch too sweet, but still cool and pleasant after several hours touring Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh.) There was a very nice 2nd level that had a very comfortable couch and a band was setting up for a gig later that evening. Recently, a Starbucks has moved in across the street to try to force Kiva Han out of business. So if you’re standing between Kiva Han and Starbucks, try Kiva Han and support the local business.

It's nice to go here and not be bothered by the annoying background music of starbucks (which they sell at the counters). Kiva Han has a hotspot too, for people who are so obsessed with their email that they can't wait till they get to work to check it. But I think it's a telerama spot, so you might have to pay. Don't take my word on that one way or the other.
Anyway, in short, the tea is good, I assume the coffee can stand on its own as well. Nice atmosphere and no pushy employees with annoying uniforms.

Locately conveniently on the corner of Forbes and North Craig, this is a nice spot for those with an antipathy to Starbucks. Often sporting notices for local bands, political meetings, and other assorted events you won't find advertised elsewhere. Be sure to try the granola, it's fabulous, as is most of the vegetarian fare. A nice place to spend the afternoon whiling away the hours studying, doing a crossword, or taking advantage of the wireless connection.
