I went to Tom's last week for the first time and will be going back as often as possible. The bulk breakfast sausage is so lean that there was no fat left in the pan at all. We just had the bacon this morning and it didn't shrink and there was hardly an fat in the pan.. I haven't tried the rest that I bought but just from looking at it, ti reminds me of going to the city market when I was a kid with my Mom.. The meat was marbled and you can tell it's been hanging and not cryo-packed... I have always loved butcher shops instead of supermarkets for my meat and was clearly disappointed when the last one in my area closed. I can't say enough good things about this place.

I had been looking for a pork shoulder with the skin and fat intact but did not have any luck finding anything around (even at the Strip District!). I called Tom's and although they did not have a shoulder with the skin intact, the gentleman I talked to was very helpful. So, I went down to take a look at what they had and it was the next best thing. The shoulder they had was marbled nicely and had a lot of top fat on it. Funny thing is that, I live five minutes from this place and I never thought of going. I'll definitely be heading back there for future meat needs. Oh, and I also purchased some of there freshly made sausage, which I am excited about. The only reason I didn't give Tom's 5 stars was because the pork shoulder didn't have the skin and 1 inch fat on it, which is required for the authentic dish I am making on Christmas. However, 4/5 ain't bad and the guys there definitely won me over.

Tom Friday's is an old fashioned butcher in Brighton Heights. The shop has been around since 1955, and looks it! But try some meat from here and you'll never go elsewhere. It tastes unbelievably better than any supermarket's meat. Prices are reasonable, and there are specials every week. Full deli case and convenience groceries are also available.
