This is the best Chinese food in town. I love their veggie chow mein. They will serve the veggies steamed or make any dish with 1/2 oil on request for a lighter meal.

Located in a small white building off 32nd St and Indian School, Desert Jade offers a lovely atmosphere, quick and friendly service, and, of course, delicious food at a great price.
The menu has a long list of foods to choose from, including vegetarian-friendly meals. I would personally recommend trying the lettuce wraps or any of the shrimp dishes.
One serving is usually more than enough to fill you up and prices are decent, averaging $15 per person for dinner (non-alcoholic drink and tip included).

I'm not a big fan of the new trendy Asian restaurants that are popping up everywhere like Pei Wei and PF Changs. I grew up in NJ where Chinese restaurants were awesome and every one of them had a menu a mile long and had real authentic food. It's hard to find a place like that out here in Phoenix, which is why I was so thrilled when I found Desert Jade. It's far from my house but definitely worth the trip. First of all it has great atmosphere. I like places that have their lights dimmed, candles on the table, and that feel cozy, and I found that here. They have a bar so you can get a Mai Tai or some other rum infused drink with an umbrella. There menu has that mile long list I was looking for. We had the sesame chicken and sweet and sour shrimp, both of which were fabulous. Of course we started with the Poo Poo platter (which for some reason they call the Bo Bo platter) which was great as well. The only thing I was a little sad about was that their egg roll wasn't that great. I'm on a quest to find a big, fluffy, light/green cabbage having (not dark green and slimy), egg roll with tiny shrimp and bits of pork in it like the ones from the east coast. I can't tell you how many egg rolls I've tried in Phoenix and haven't found anything even remotely close. But, egg roll aside, if you like traditional Chinese food, you'll love this place.

Desert Jade is a classic, fantastic food, a good atmosphere, service that ensures that your food is out within fifteen minutes and a really interesting decor that resembles a Connecticut library more than a regular Chinese restaurant, though the contrast is quite charming.
Foodwise, I would definitely recommend the chicken fruit salad (I thought it was a weird combination as well, but it's delicious), lettuce wraps and sizzling rice soup. These are the standouts, the truly delicious dishes that I have every time I go.
The service is fast, friendly and I'm always pleased with my dining experience. It's great to be able to support a family-owned restaurant with good food, service and that has been around for so long, going on 20 years now.
Pros: Speed of service, food, ambience
Cons: Parking can get crowded when it's really busy

Lived the 1st half of my life in New York and still frequent Chinatown on at minumum of once per year, Desert Jade is not Chinese food. It is the typical Americanized Chinese food. If you are looking for anything that would be considered Authentic, try another restaurant.
For Mainstream, Americanized Chinese food, it was OK, the only thing it was missing was the fied noodles to dip in the orange sauce.
Pros: Clean, plenty of parking, comfortable booths/chairs.
Cons: Atmosphere was more of a steak house than a Chinese restaurant.

Read some of the reviews and thought I give this place a try. I LOVE IT!!!
I started with the Sizzle Rice Soup. Once that rice hit the soup, it tasted mm mmm good.
then we had three main dishes. The Chicken Chow mein, Pepper Beef, and this wonderful dish called Chicken Lettus!! wow...
P.S...This juandixon guy who give such a "insightful" review. Yeah I'm sure there's a place behind the Sonic and liquor store. But I would be wary what he is recommending.
Pros: Great Food, Great service, Wonderful food
Cons: Nothing
