I recently just had the best romantic dining experience in a long time. From the moment we walked in the door the hostess gave us a warm smile and quickly sat us a table for two despite our lack of reservations. There were glowing candles on the tables along with silverware and water glasses, A giant fish tank sat behind us with some intruiging fish. She quickly brought us warm bread and took a drink order, which I had a special "Vesuvio Eruption" which was simply fantastic. Not long after we placed our food order it had arrived, Saku Tuna rare and crabcakes. The tuna was perfectly cooked and ever so nicely plated. The crabcakes were a golden brown with a taste to match there look apeal, I heard the cakes were the chef's specialty and some of the best in the city which I would have to agree. Within a few minutes of receiving our food the waitress checked on us to make sure everything was absolutely perfect, which it was! We cleared our plates and was offered dessert. Surely we went with the terimisu and chocolate brownie which were to die for! The chocolate brownie was more like a warm lava cake served with icecream..mmmm.. so good! It had to be one of the best restuarant experiences Ive had so far on this side of town. We quickly asked our waitress to book us a reservation for 4 this weekend in which we plan on bringing our friends.
Pros: Simply delighted, service with a smile , excellent food

I've been here several times and have always been completely satisfied. The bartenders are fantastic and are exremely knowledgeable about the drinks--I reccommend trying the sake they often have themselves infused with fruit--quite tasty! As for the sushi--party in my mouth. Best I have ever had, and that's quite a bit for myself. All in all, I'd have to say that combined with the atmosphere and variety offered, this is not just my favorite sushi place, but my favorite restaurant/bar in the city!
Pros: menu tour-guides, variety of food/drink, great spot
Cons: can get rather busy

I have been going to L'Angolo off and on since it opened (I was a weekly regular for lunch, which, sadly, is no more). Over that time there have been a number of changes in the kitchen, and I think the current chef, a young and talented Gallipolian (Puglia) may just be the best. The trick with getting the most out of the L'Angolo experience is the same one I advise for all true Italian restaurants: look for the simplest dishes and you will find the best. The baked funghi infused with the rich flavors of olive oil and rosemary, the grilled calamari drizzled with olive oil and your own squirt of lemon, the insalate served with olive oil and salt - just as is in Italy - all simple, all exquisite. Likewise with the pasta, stay away from the over-sauced, the over-creamed, the over-piled with ubiquitous lump crab meat. Choose instead the simple papardelle with Ox tail braised until it falls apart, a real "slow food" celebration for the palate. Or the orrecchiette with shredded duck cooked simply in wine and herbs. Or, my favorite, still made but no longer listed on the menu, delicate and flavorful gnocchi in a 'molte semplice' olive oil and rosemary condiment. (to call it a sauce would be to mislead). But superb simple food is only part of the allure of L'Angolo. The energetic, eager, and uncannily anticipatory young wait staff perfectly compliment the food with their own balance of simple artistry. To the reviewers who fault this part of the L'Angolo experience, I say, eat at Babbo or Vetri if formal pampered service is your Idea of Italian dining. For me, the uniqueness of L'Angolo is inseparable from Nino's familiar but always professional doting, and especially his vicarious participation in the festive celebration of il cibo italiano.
Pros: Siimple but equisite Pugliese/Italian food; wait staff adds to enjoyment.
Cons: Some overambitious menu items sometimes miss the mark

My absolutely favorite restaurant in Philly. Sweet and savory crepes! Wonderful atmosphere. Great place to bring visiting friends or relatives. Soups and salads available for non-crepe lovers. The choices are endless, but I prefer the recommendations of the chef on the menu. Truly a slice of heaven.

Le Bec-Fin was another five stars restaurant that I had the pleasure of trying. I ate there for a total of thee times. One of those times was for lunch since it is way less expensive than dinner. Just so you know they have pre-fixe menus for both lunch and dinner. If you are lucky, Le Bec-Fin sometimes take part in Restaurant Week, but since their name is never on the list, you have to call them to find out. The food there is amazing. A simple salmon appertizer would somehow come out as the best salmon you have ever tasted. This place lives up to its reputation, and the service is impeccable.
Pros: Food, service, atmosphere
Cons: pricey
