Having not been to the Moshulu in quite a few years, I made a reservation this past weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at the renovation which had taken place --- clearly not recently---- but nicer than I remembered just the same.
Our waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu, and took the time to explain the preparation of a few of the dishes.
The menu looked interesting enough and we started with some apps. We ordered the Seared Diver scallops and Tuna Tartar. The scallop turned out to be 1 (small) scallop, seared but cold, on a bed of risotto for a whopping $12 and the tartar was served in a brick with mostly Avacado/Guaq combo for $16. The wedge salad was good with plenty of quality blue cheese. Our entrees were both fish dishes Mahi and Chilean Sea Bass both very small portions but not poorly prepared. My Sea bass was priced at $32 and it was about the size of a silver dollar?? My entree was served al-a-carte and the side dishes i ordered were sweet potato gnocchi and also the sauteed vegetables each served in a crock type small bowl and each $9 ---- get the drift !! Plenty of room for dessert, which was cheesecake and maple bourbon ice cream ect.. very tasty with a nice presentation.
All in all not a horrible experience but very over priced $100.00 per person(only two glasses of wine on the bill)
Off the list !
Pros: View of the waterfont
Cons: Paid parking lot

I went to the Moshulu for my boyfriend's brunch with his parents. We were all so astounded by our experience! It was unique being the ship with the views of Penns Landing and the Ben Franklin Bridge, not to mention the decor inside, the beautiful buffetts that were set up, the delicious entrees prepared fresh, and the warm, attentive service we received! It was such a special, relaxing, incredible experience! I certainly recommend it to anyone!
Pros: views, service, food

My fiance and I do not get to go out very often do the fact of our busy schedules so when we were able to enjoy a night out we wanted to make sure it was worth it. We had heard about the Moshulu from a friend and decided to give it a try. Well from the minute I walked into the lobby and viewed the amazing replica cake of the White House done by Moshulu's own pastry chef, Ernie Rich, I knew we had picked a great place. I am very picky about having my steaks cooked correctly so I was a little hesitant in ordering the 9oz fillet, however, I gave it a try and was amazed how perfectly cooked it was. I must say that we chose the right place to enjoy our night out and I can not wait to come back in the summer say I can enjoy dining on the deck!!
Pros: Service, food, view

My sister and I decided to dine at Moshulu for New Years eve this year. I must say...WOW. What an unforgettable evening. The ship is so elegant, and the staff so accomodating. Be sure to request a window as we did. We had to wait a few extra minutes for our table but it is well worth it! On special holidays Moshulu offers a pre fixe menu with choices for each couse. The food was absolutely delicious and the service...well considering it was a holiday and I'm sure one of the busiest days of the year for this restaurant the entire staff was in such high spirits. From the time we had our car parked to the time we left the restaurant we experienced nothing but the most gracious hospitality. After dinner guests were invited up to the deck for cocktails, live entertainment and a beautiful fireworks display at midnight. My sister and I were thrilled. One of the most memorable dining experiences of my life!
Pros: Everything
Cons: None

After two years of planning my son?s Bar Mitzvah the event was marred not only by what occurred the night of the party but by the attack on my character by a Partner . I was later told that everything went as planned, my guests ate too much, I was cheap, and that I was lying about various things that occurred
While driving to the party I got a call at 8:20 indicating that the Moshulu staff was not allowing people into the party as they were not ready. My party was scheduled to begin at 8:00 and did not begin until 8:30.
When I arrived the cocktail area was crowded, hot and had only one exit. It was so uncomfortable that people left the area and moved down into the dining area which was supposed to be closed until dinner.
During the cocktail hour they ran out of hors d'oeuvres. I had ordered what was recommended by Moshulu.
I hired dancers who had to be paid extra due to the delay when they could perform due to the delay.
After dinner, when we moved on deck for dancing (an hour later than my timeline called for), the dance floor was not arranged as agreed to. Approximately 50% more space would have been utilized had the floorplan been followed.
In the agreement with Moshulu it requires 20% gratuity. I had no problem with this but since I was paying a gratuity there should be no tip jars on the bars and that the bartenders should not be accepting tips since that was included in my price. I was shocked when I went to get a drink and saw cash resting on the bar clearly indicating that the bartenders were accepting tips.
Moshulu had committed to valet parking and the valet staff left at midnight forcing guests to seek out assistance in getting their keys/cars.
In the end, it is what it is, but since Moshulu takes no responsibility for what occurred is just wrong which is why I am sharing my story.
Pros: beautiful location
Cons: horrible treatment by senior management

Deserts are heavenly creations.
Its a great place to take a date for dinner. If it weren't so very expensive, I'd go more often and rate it 5 stars.

I dined at Moshulu this past week and I must say the experience exceeded my every expectation. Originally I had planned to only have cocktails upstairs on deck (beautiful view by the way), but then my guest and I decided to have dinner downstairs in the main dining room. I am so glad we did. the ambiance was impeccable. The candle light and views of the river made for a very romantic setting. My guest was very pleased. The food made this experience more memorable than ever. I had the Lobster and my guest had the Ribeye, both of which were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I would recommend this restaurant to any one who is looking to dine somewhere new...Get out of the city and enjoy some peace and quiet on the river!
Pros: Great service, great ambiance, something new and exciting
Cons: ummmmmm.....

I have been to the Moshulu on three different occassions, so I highly doubt my bad experiences were just flukes. Totally overpriced, portions are undersized, and I am fairly certain they re-use much of their produce. After having two miserable dining experiences, I gave up but decided to try their deck bar one Saturday evening for drinks for a going-away party for my sister. Huge mistake...bartenders aren't friendly or knowledgble; they got our orders wrong and apparently hadn't had much experience at making margaritas. (Pretty basic drink for a summer-time deck bar.) I complained at this point, but to no avial...management team belongs at McDonalds. They were too preoccupied with rushing their dinner customers out the door to make room for some trashy club event. Don't waste your money; there are plenty of great restaurants in this city!
Pros: parking lot available
Cons: food...service...private parties that interrupt diners

I looked at 5 places for m y wedding, and the management and the Moshulu was unbelievably RUDE, I got a bad feeling from the managers cheap suit, but the way he acted was beyond what I have seen in any movie. The other places charged more, but are well worth not having to deal with this guy.
The other places took time to make sure that I felt comfortable and happy with my wedding. The manager at the Moshulu made tons of promises on the phone, but when we got there changed his mind ?because he could?. He changed prices, wouldn?t put anything in writing, and got upset when we asked questions like ?what appetizers do you offer?.
He yelled at me in front of the entire restaurant because he didn?t have time for weddings because he was a business man. Clearly, he makes enough money to treat possible clients like thrid class citizens. Keep in mind, they advertise on the Knot, and are the back cover of Philadelphia Bride.
Most other places give up front pricing, details about food, number of servers, etc. This guy just wanted a check for $35,000 without any info. What's worse, the food wasn't even good. I would have overlooked the less than great food for the view but he was even rude to my mother. He looked as his watch throughout our entire 15 minute meeting. He was like a sleazy little cartoon character. The waitress rolled her eyes behind his back. The hostess appologized for him as we left, and said that he yells at people all the time. She said the other partners weren't as rude. I have no clue what his problem was! We were well dressed, prepared, ready to have our wedding there and could pay cash that week. Even though I'm a not a business man (I'm a clinical psychologist), I know that yelling at someone in front of his resturaunt is bad business.
Pros: ambience
Cons: RUDE management

I decided to try moshulu since we were looking for a new restaurant to try for a special occasion - we have gone to many of the top restaurants in Philly and I wanted a change. This place got great reviews so I was convinced. When we arrived, the inside dining area while very beautiful had a bizarre smell. Unappetizing and just strange. So we decided to go sit on the deck, outside on the water. After getting a seat that faced the parking lot, we sat down to eat.
The tuna tartare was noticably few days old and had that slightly not fresh fish taste - I was so disappointed. Main dish was pan seared tuna and a gourmet hamburger. The hamburger was extremely average and the tuna was TASTELESS. This would have been a great restaurant if we were paying $12 a meal but at average 35-39 dollars a meal, this place is SO overpriced.
All in all, I would not recommend this restaurant. The water is nice but the food is terrible and just so expensive for what it is.
Pros: Pretty indoor dining area
Cons: Terrible food that is not well prepared or fresh and expensive
