Located in University City, the Pod is a sight for sore eyes. With ultra modern decor, the restaurant is definately geared for the young and trendy set. It is definately not child-friendly, at least for the younger child. The sushi was very good, although very pricey. The desserts are very delicious as well. I wouldn't go there everyday for sushi, but it is a fun and energetic place to visit when you have guests coming to visit Philly.

Pricey, but good. My boyfriend took me here to eat a couple of times, and I've been quite satisfied. They have great sushi options for two, if you can spare the money for sushi and sashimi grande. There are some other worthwhile sushi selections as well. As for the restaurant food, one thing to note here is that you should ask about the amount of food you'll be getting with each order. While a $15 kobe beef appetizer consists of a whopping 3 slices of 1-inch wide kobe beef, the same amount can buy you a platter of spicy tempura rock shrimp appetizer that can fill you up by itself. Final suggestion: try the tuna dish cooked rare, if you like sushi.

The best way to describe how Pod looks inside is The Jetsons meets a 50's diner. The walls, seats and tables are all white and there are a number of colored lights. There are three private rooms that they call "pods" which can hold parties of 6-8. In those rooms there are buttons on the wall that will change the lighting to one of nine different colors. The food is very good but is not cheap. The sushi bar also has a conveyor belt.

I have eaten at many great places, and Pod is absolutely one of my favorites. From the minute you walk in you are treated with great respect and to a great experience. The restaurant is truly one of a kind, as is the food. The tempura appetizer is not to be missed, followed by the wasabi crusted filet mignon which is literally making my stomach growl. While it is somewhat pricey, it is not at all out of line with what one would expect from such a great place. I love, love Pod, and would go back every time I am in Philly.

Love sushi? Or asian food in general? How about a place with cube-shaped seats in the waiting area, party rooms with big buttons that change the light ambience of the room and a stool-bar area with a conveyer belt full of sushi? Sound strange enough? Well, that's Pod for you in a nut-shell. Pod is not just a restaurant: its an eating experience. I've got there and sat at their bar (where they have unique drinks made especially for Pod), sat with a party of 10 in one of their party rooms (and played all nights with the big-colored buttons that changed the lights of the room) and even sat at the conveyer-belt and stool bar to sample their many sushi varieties. Each and every time, my experience at Pod has been different and unique, but always enjoyable. Go for the experience and, if nothing else, to watch the gigantic screen playing Japanese-only movies constantly, *wink*. Oh yeah, and their crazy unique desserts (like passion fruit creme brulee) are worth splurging on the calories! Beware, you do need reservations and the prices are PRICEY. Definitely not for the college students in the area on a budget. But worth the price for a special occassion or when the folks are in town for Alumni weekend.

This restaurant has great reputation, and it lives up to it. If you're planning to go here, expect to spend at least $20-25 per person per main course, and you will not be dissatisfied. The waiters are knowledgable and can take good care of you, if you do not know what you are doing. The restaurant itself is very pretty, and is definitely worth visiting with a group of either two (at the two people tables) or more than six (with the color changing booths). The food they present is quite close to the other restaurants by the same owner, but are all quite special in their own sense. Sushi is top-notch, and even if not so affordable, the Sushi and Sashimi Grande at $65 can make your day for a two-people dinner...
