The Fresh Grocer of Walnut

I love shopping at the Fresh Grocer! They have fresh produce, it's convenient, and they are accommodating. As far as pricing goes, their prices are fair... this is the city, grocery prices are high everywhere you shop. Not to mention the fact that the Fresh Grocer is NOT a monopoly and only has a few stores unlike most of its competitors. After trying to locate a product that they didn't carry, the manager told me he would order the product for me, which he did and got it in within the same week! 5 Stars! I've never had a problem with anyone being rude to me.. maybe more people should live by the saying your catch more flies with honey than vinegar, or treat others the way you'd like to be treated. I have seen, on several occasions, customers being blatantly rude to Fresh Grocer employees for no reason! If i worked there I'd probably get defensive also.. it's not fair for customers to do that. Overall the fresh grocer is a great improvement to the city and our community. I will certainly continue shopping with them. more

the cashiers never look at you directly or smile and u can just about hear a thank u most times they don't thank u at all. the people serving food r always friendly and upbeat. more

Fresh Grocers' sercurity checks only black people's bags in the store. I called corporate and told store mgt about what I saw and they said I was lying. Then they threaten me with being arrested. And the security guys boss called me and threatened me with Jail also. Talk about free speech.This is a great example of how Black men are put down in our society. I spoke up about what I saw and they have called me a liar and threatened to put me in Jail...... more

This is the grocery store that a lot of Penn kids shop at. It's got a horrible lay out, alright prices, and having talked to ex-employees, they pay horribly. I've bought a sandwhich there, only to unwrap it and find mold inside!!!! gross!!! That was the last time I shopped there. more

On my first visit the store smelled like bleach. On the second it smelled like moth balls. It was overpowering both times. Hardly any checkout lines were open and the selection was not as large as SuperFresh. I was disappointed. Maybe I just went at a bad time, but it's not like I was there at 3am on a Tuesday or something. I don't know, but I do know I won't be going back. more

Fresh Grocer is located on 40th and Walnuts Streets across the street from the Bridge cinema. Since this supermarket is in the UPenn area, many of the customers are students. This supermarket has a big selection of prepared food, fresh pizzas and there is even a friendly staff making your salad. The prices are a bit higher than regular supermarkets, but there are also good bargains that would make a budget conscious customer smile. At 11 PM, many of the prepared food will be sold at a discount price, some will even line up to grab a few of the discounted food packages, which definitely beat eating tv dinners. The supermarket is clean and very bright. You can get free parking in the garage which is located on top of the supermarket. more

Fresh Grocer's is very convenient for college students and is open 24 hours which is another plus. You can feed those late night munchies without going across the street to McDonald's. They have fresh produce and you are guaranteed to find everything that you need. However, it is on the pricer side but you pay for the value. They also sell prepared foods and sushi, make sandwiches, have a coffee bar, and even seating upstairs for those who want to stay. You can also shop online. more

This store has an amazing variety of food to buy, and they will not fail in satisfying you. A definite burn in the wallet, but hey, everything comes at a price. Certainly a good place to get fruit (better on some days), the best thing about fresh grocer is their selection of prepared food items. Salads, asian cuisine, pizzas, pasta bar, sushi, ready-to-eat fruit and more. Most of them are so overpriced that you will be scared for weeks. Your mouth will be watering and one day you will start giving in... It's that good. However, they did overlook one item. You can get 12 pieces of maki for 6 dollars, which is a good deal anywhere. My recommendation would be to get the salmon or tuna rolls that come with the spicy sauce, because fresh grocer not only has good sauce, but it also has sushi better than what a good number of sushi restaurants present. more

This is the one market that I have found that is pretty much "in the city" Most of the markets in the city are smaller markets which cannot provide as much value as the big chains. Fresh Grocer is a big (national?) chain. The prices there are not as good as ACME, or ShopRite, but they are in that range. Also, there is free parking if you spend $10+. The parking is in a garage above the store, and they validate your card. Sometimes I have parked there, even when going somewhere else and just bought something at the market to get the free parking. $10 for parking in the city is a pretty good deal. more
