I get almost all of my produce from Iovine Brothers, and their selection is what always draws me back. On Saturdays, the place is absolutely ghastly crowded--you can hardly move two feet sometimes--but if you get there in the early afternoon, the quality of the stuff is higher, I've found, because the turnover is higher then so everything is fresher. If you get there on a Monday afternoon, things are a little bit bleaker because there's not as much traffic, but I can't say that I've ever left disappointed.
You'll find all of your staples (oranges, bananas, apples, potatoes, onions, lettuce, carrots, mushrooms, etc), but they also have an ever-changing selection of more exotic fruits and veg and mushrooms. They have some organic stock, and they also carry nuts and dried fruit.
They've changed the place around a bit, so the aisles are wider and more accomodating, and the whole place feels a little less confined.
If you're looking for produce at amazing prices, this is the place to go (seriously--I get so, so much food for so little money, and I'm almost never disappointed with what I've bought).

Iovine's is the *BEST* produce store in the city. period. If they don't have an item, then it's not in season. They have local produce (think Jersey tomatoes), a fantastic mushroom bar, organic produce at a reasonable price, a good selection of dried fruits and nuts, and great specials. They offer $1 'grab bags' of fruit and veggies that are very ripe and need to be eaten pronto. It's a little bit like a zoo with many not-too-sweet old ladies trying to run you over trying to get to the checkout lanes, but it's worth it for the variety, quality and value. Staff is fast and naturally courteous.
