I have discovered Sonny's Famous steaks by accident. Philadelphia is well known for their Cheese steak sandwich and a good place to eat this while visiting Philadelphia historic district is Sonny's. Sonny is 3 blocks East of the the Liberty Bell pavilion and it's located on 2nd and Market.
Their lunch special is reasonably priced and will give you a steak sandwich, delicious french fries and a soda.
I prefer Sonny's over Gino's Steak which is located in South Philadelphia, but some can disagree with me. The hoagie roll is nice and fresh and you get a great amount of meat on your sandwich. Add some fried onions or your favorite cheese and you have your authentic Philly Steak sandwich.
If you are out partying in Ol' City, you can stop by Sonny's after 2AM for a quick bite.

Trader Joes has really tasty food really cheap. It's also all nice and organic and hippiesh and such but I don't care much about that. Anyway, it's antoher place dangerous to wander through because you may come out with far more food than you expected! A recent example of their cheap yumminess: a delicious cheese pizza good for two meals for me and my girlfriend for four dollars.

This is one of our favorite bakeries. I often stop in here on my way out of Philly so that i can bring home a bunch of goodies. At about sixty cents a pastry this is an amazing bargain. They offer all kinds of sweet and savory buns. A few family favorites are the swiss rolls and the butter cream or coconut buns. The savory chicken curry bun is delicious!! This is a great place for a quick portable bun or two for lunch and the kids will love the pastry wrapped hot dogs!

Long lines at this chocolate store always attests to the freshness of its chocolates, candies, and marzipan. The truffles here are delicious and reasonably-priced (for truffles). They also carry sugar-free chocolates, nut clusters, and candies. My diabetic grandfather LOOVES these.
Their gift boxes are beautiful and a great gift for co-workers and clients. This is one Reading Terminal Market counter that is jam-packed with products.

This store is a baker's paradise. At Christmastime, I visit for all of the nuts and fruits I need for my Christmas cookies and cakes. I also enjoy visiting to pick up snack and gift items throughout the year. It smells so good inside, you'll be tempted to purchase much more than you really need. My advice... Go right ahead! You only live once and the product they sell will make you very very happy!

As everyone is effected by the economy - I have tried to go to other shops, however none with the quality as this. No point in shopping or cheap, massively discounted food when you have to toss half of it. Rather save my time and money and know my supplies are fresh from here.

More
While its surroundings aren't exactly welcoming, the Hong Kong Supermarket is undoubtedly the best Asian supermarket in Philadelphia. With its abundant parking, wide aisles (wider than in the suburbs!), and clean store, even the most spoiled consumer will find something to like. I especially like the snack foods offered here, which include Italian hazelnut cookies, Japanese seafood & rice crackers, and Chinese crunchies. The produce department is also top-notch. (The merchandise is much cheaper than in the suburbs, and is fresher and of better quality.) But what keeps me coming here on a regular basis is how well the store is maintained. Many other Asian markets are dank, dreary, dark, and sometimes, dirty. This store is as nice as an Acme or Genuardi's. A+++!!!

Great beer distributor with a wide variety of beer to choose from. Whether you're looking for a case of local brew or something imported Springfield is the place to check out. Their stock ranges from domestic beers (bud, miller, pabst, etc) to local brews (such as flying fish, victory and yards) to belgium beer (chimay). Overall, their selection is great and their prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a look.

Unparalleled selection of beer, including tons of rare Belgian stuff and good American micros. Price is not a consideration, as most of this stuff simply isn't available almost anywhere else in PA by the bottle or six pack.
