Tony Lukes has the best cheese steaks in Philadelphia. Pat's and Geno's comes in a very close second but Tony Luke's is my favorite. Whenever we have out of town guests this is one of the must do places.

To all the people complaining about the bones in the chicken, it is apparent that you have never been to Jamaica. The food is authentic and they are keeping it that way. They just chop it up with a meat cleaver in Jamaica the same as they do at the Hut. If you are looking for a boneless breast go to Applebees and stop complaining.
Pros: Everything
Cons: The people complaining about the bones

First of all I would like to say that if I lived closer to Derek's I would eat there every night.
I only eat whole organic foods and Derek's is one of the only places around that serves up meals that taste as good as they are for you.
They are also one of the only places in Philly that will serve you a truly rare piece of meat.
Other reviewers here that complain about the seating, food or the owner must be living in some other dimension than I am. Derek is probably one of coolest chefs in Philly. He is as down to earth as they come, he talks to every one that comes into his place. He is a gentle, kind person who actually listens to you when you talk to him.
If you want to talk about food Derek is full of information and anecdotes. Every ingredient he uses is the freshest and best available. Most of the ingredients are from small local purveyors and you can taste the freshness.
As far as the seating goes, the place is a bit cramped, yes. But this is Manyunk, the restaurants are all in row homes, same as Sansom St. in West Philly or Downtown. If you want to eat in a warehouse you can always head to a chain steakhouse in King of Prussia and spend twice as much money on meat and veggies that show up on an eighteen wheeler twice a week.
Derek's beer selection is tremendous, wines are superb.
The problem is Derek has taste, real taste. He is not a trend follower, he is not a poser, he is a Philly native who brings his own style and passion to his dishes. The food at Derek's is exactly the same food Derek serves to guests at his home. Its food that Derek loves himself, its not meant to impress reviewers.
His menu varies from day to day but at its core its been very much the same for years -- because its truly good local cuisine, like Chez Panice in Berkeley.
If you want to impress your date take her to some flashy new joint opened up by some restaurant developer.
But if you want to eat good food, that's good for you, that's good for the community and that's prepared to perfection by one of Philly's own great chef's then eat at Derek's
Pros: Food Is Great. Derek uses only the best local ingredients
Cons: People in Philly are Clueless About Food

Sorry, I am using this space to respond the previous review.
This is Alex, I clearly remember this lovely Yorkiepoo, Honey. Honey was badly matted, legs, ears and tail. I called the owner and explained to her it was not fair for Honey to take such heavy dematting in a short time, and I told her she can pick her up to demat her at home and come back to get her groomed, or we have to cut off the mats. She agreed to cut off the mats. There were big mat at tail area. Tail is very sensitive area. We had no choice to cut it off. We did what the owner agreed, we did the best for Honey, and we had no choice to cut off the big mat.
I understand the owner. Everybody wants his/her dogs look the best all the time. For matted dogs, we only have limited choices. We did our best to communicate with the owner, and recommended all the choices she had. We did what she agreed to. Unfortunately she was not happy about the result.

My boyfriend & I went here on a date night & there were too many choices of what to eat, so we just got 5 differnet appetizers to share. They were so good, all of them! We had 2 bottles of wine & they didn't complain or anything about our lengthy stay even though they were near closing time. The whole bill came to $36! For 5 appetizers! We were stuffed. Great place!
Pros: Cute & Romantic
Cons: Got a bit loud from other patrons

Wonderful place to meet friends, or family for a Great local brew (support Local) and Dinner! The menu is excellent with many selections on the veggie and non-veggie tip. The duck tacos are fantastic, the hummus trio is to die for and the chicken sandwich is one of my personal favorites. Oh did I mention the JerkK Chicken? muy bueno.
I just experienced their lunch menu for the first time and was highly impressed by the simple but tasty food. I had the grill cheese & tomato soup which was wonderful. The service was fast and friendly which makes having lunch out essential. They just starting serving breakfast so I shall have to try that sometime soon!
I have been to Bridget Foy's several times and just recently the privately owned restaurant has changed it's look to fit the style of a hip but welcoming dinning spot - check it out, you will not regret it!
Pros: The food and atmosphere

Bar Ferdinand is a great spot to go on a date for a romantic supper or diner. The interior is cozy, dark, and well-decorated. The food is meant to be shared and is just delicious, with a nice range of hot and cold dishes.
There is something for everyone, especially if you're adventurous -- some of the things I've tried here I would not have even been able to imagine, yet taste amazing, and others are simple and delicious.
Be sure and stop by on a Monday for 1/2 off wine bottles, since wine is perfect to go with the food and atmosphere.
Also, they have a great outdoors seating area and often cook outside too, so stop by on a pleasant sunny day.
Finally, the staff is friendly and knows the menu (food and drink) well, so they are able to make good suggestions or clarify something if you're uncertain as to what something is/will be.

It?s sad that so many people did not have a pleasant visit here because I did, and I would CERTAINLY come back!! I guess every restaurant has a ?bad day?, but thankfully, I didn?t run into one. My friends and I went during restaurant week, (a first for me, but the third visit for them). I ordered from the ?regular? menu and the food was DELICIOUS!! Everything was cooked to perfection from the Filet Mignon to the asparagus (which I don?t normally eat). The ?Warm Bread Pudding? was heavenly!! Our server ?Sam? was very attentive and friendly and quick!! Even the manager came to our table to ?check on things? ? AND he was sincere. I don?t usually dine in Center City because of the pricey parking, but it was worth it that day. McCormick & Schmick?s have a customer for life!!
Pros: EVERYTHING was perfect !!! DEFINTELY thumbs up !!
