One of my favorite places in Philly. I say "places" rather than hair salons, because I leave Ultra feeling better not just about my hair but about life in general. The atmosphere is kitschy-cool and impeccably clean, they play music good enough for the stylists to sing to, they serve coffee in mugs with images that change as they cool, and Sharon and Kristen have incredibly positive outlooks on life. Of course, they also do great hair. I've gone to Kristen three times and she gives my straight hair the perfect amount of layering and angles (enough to give it body and style without it looking too funky - which is exactly what I ask for). Pros: love thats in my neighborhood! Cons: cash only- no cards

Sharon cut my hair and I have to say it was one of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten! She seemed more interested in chatting with everyone that came in and out of the shop than focusing on my haircut. When I left the shop, I immediately ran home and put my hair in a ponytail and wore it that way for weeks until the horrible haircut grew out. I went to a new salon after 8 weeks for a trim and even the stylist there commented what a bad haircut I had gotten. I would not recommend Ultra to anyone!

Sharyn's been cutting my hair for nine years now. I went through quite a few salons, and mediocre-to-bad haircuts, before I found her. I missed a few years when I moved out of the city for a while--and I didn't have a decent haircut the whole time. I wear my hair short, so the cut is critical (it's hard to fix a bad one). Sharyn has never let me down. Her cuts (and color) are flawless. They wear well and grow out well. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the other stylists are great... I'd give ten stars if I could. Pros: artistry and a great atmosphere Cons: none that I've found

Ultra plays great music including lots of older punk, and some newer indie stuff, mixed with alternative, old school dance, pop, and techno....Random, good stuff to hear when they're chopping away at your head. The salon is super clean. The salon's feel is kind of modern high-end salon meets kitschy retro. All together, a color, cut and blowdry came to $160. which was totally worth it! I feel like a new person...which is good because I just got over an icky breakup and I need a good change. Pros: consistant work. been a client for months! Cons: None!

I got my first haircut at Ultra 6 months ago. I could tell that the cut was good because after 6 months, it was long, but it grew out very evenly and well. I used to go to chain hair cutting places to save money, but after 3 months of growing out, my hair looked uneven and terrible. I decided to do a search online for excellent places in philly and found Ultra. I have not regretted making the decision to stick with Sharon ever since. This place is worth every penny. The people who work there are really kind and hilarious. Thanks Sharon and friends! Pros: professional and clean haircuts

I went to this salon last week and had a haircut with Sharyn. This is the BEST haircut I have EVER had! Sharyn was booked 2 weeks in advance but Joan (GREAT receptionist!) suggested I put myself on the cancelation list. I didn't expect to get in on a Friday night, but was so excited when Joan called me! The people at Ultra Hair Studio are so nice and did everything they could to accomadate me. This is a great cut! I have already booked my next one. Oh, and Kristen the other stylist was doing nice hair also. Super place! Pros: cute space, nice people, well trained staff Cons: none for me

I went to Ultra Studio today after being refered to them by 3 other salons. I was looking for a last minute hair style as I was going to an event. Sharyn Kelly was so nice. They were completely booked out but she took the time to make a phone call to another stylist friend -at another salon- just to help me out! I can't believe it! Who would do that for you? Ultra and Sharyn saved my night. I'm def. going back for color and a haircut! Everyone there looked like they were very happy and the hair was incredible that I saw. I can't wait to go!
