It's not a wonder as to why someone would receive bad service at zot. I worked there last year and saw everything first hand. As soon as I told my friends I got a job at ZoT I was warned by multiple friends that the owner is crazy and I should probably not accept the job offer. I soon found out they were right. The man is nuts. He has no idea what he's doing running a restaurant. There are no managers. I went through almost no training. The food from I saw was okay but not spectacular. The guy fired people because he was having a bad day. After about 3 weeks working with the restaurant and the owners consistent rampages, one day he fired the girl who "trained" me ( this happened weekly) He went off on her cussing and screaming in front of customers. I quit that day. The restaurant is run by a lunatic. He never pays his bills, it will be shut down in a matter of time. Pros: Beer Cons: Everything else

I finally went to Zot with friends and family and everybody loved it. We were greeted by a charming hostess, our waitress was paying attention to details, the food came on time and the beer was at the right temperature. Appetizers, main courses tasted like what they supposed to, that made me feel comfortable enough to order dessert. The menu features a good selection of exotic meats and I chose kangaroo, spicy pepper sauce with garlic fries, but we also had ostrich, mussels, hanger steak, bison burger, add the perfect Brussels sprout with bacon as side dish. They even bake bread on premises. Desserts were OK for a bistro fare. Beer is the real treat with an extensive choice and a great poor.The bill was a pleasant surprise for the quality and service we experienced I am usually not that easy on restaurant since this is where I live but the overall experience was a real delight. We went to ZOT a year ago and had a great experience but last night the entire evening was a big disappointment, to the point where my 12 year old said it was bad compared to the last time we were here. The services was slow and where we arrived there was only one other couple eating. I am OK with that as a meal out should be relaxing but for soup to take 30 minutes is a bit long. They were out of everything, The appetizer we ordered (escargot) the first choice of wine my wife selected and 2 out of the 3 beers I requested they didnt have ( one was Delirium Tremens which I would say is a Belgian standard). when I recievdd my soup it was cold, the mussels were so covered in vegetables and overly seasoned that you couldnt taste anything but the seasoning . In addition the mussles were small and seemed tired so to speak....just no life to them. The bread was stale and boring. All in all if you plan to go a second time and it has been a while sicne you were there think twice Pros: extensive beer list Cons: slow service subpar food

I've been to Zot three times now, and I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews here. I've enjoyed it tremendously all 3 times, as did all my dinner companions. I think the mussels are great, with a large selection of delicious sauces (my favorites are the lemon grass, and the swiss cheese - separate sauces, not together!), and decent sized portions (female dinner companions rarely finish theirs). The fries are excellent, and the beer selection is outstanding. Its also very reasonably priced, and a really nice atmosphere - because of the "atmosphere" at most places in the area I rarely go to Headhouse Square but this is one exception). Wait staff has always been helpful and appropriate. My only negative experience was showing up once with a party of 8 but claimed they didn't have our reservation (I had spoken with the owner on the phone, who took it) - so we had to wait upstairs for hour and a half. But they did their best to make it up to us with a complimentary desert & desert beer. All in all, one of my favorite places. Pros: Great mussels, large selection, interesting and enjoyable atmosphere Cons: Not so reliable with their reservations

Enough said...German spot that can NOT do mussels??? I heard Zot meant crazy person...These owners are crazy for putting a kitchen in this BAR/Nightclub. Discontinue food and promote beer. Saturday evening reservations-waited an hour and a half for our entrees-wait staff was helpful in choosing a beverage but our waitress was aloof and rude when I asked about the long wait. Quality of the food was very poor-meat was tough and full of gristle-mussels were small, chewy and half of them were closed. My date and I both became violently ill as a result of the meal-a complete disaster. Never again. Pros: None noted. Cons: Food made me extremely ill.

The service is horrible (waited over an hour for food even though was empty, asked for garlic fries and waitress disappeared and came back an hour later and acted like i never requested anything) The food is mediocre (muscles are small and way to many of them arent open) The price not to expensive but for the quality you get pretty overpriced Worst thing about it is that the management will stand by their great restaurant and even argue with customers. I would never recommend this place to anyone and i bet by the time someone reads this review this zot place will not be around... Pros: They serve good beer Cons: Service, food, attitude

A night out at ZOT was the amazing evening my wife and I were hoping for on the rare night out without our son. The only thing better than the mouth watering menu and the unbeleivable beer selection, was the exceptionl staff. The bar tender downstairs left nothing to be desired in his knowledge of their beverages and Alicia and Joe were incredibley knowledgable and fun to be served by. We felt as if we were amongst new friends the entire evening. Even getting the opportunity to talk with the owner was a pleasure and truly made the entire experiance worth every moment. I would say it was worth every penny, however when the tab came at the end of the evening none of us could beleive how inexpensive the night was. For the caliber of what you get the menu and beer is priced very well. Best night out in Philly without question.
