The PCC Parent Education classes are fantastic opportunities for Moms, Dads, Grandparents or other care givers to watch their children- from infancy to age 5- play, sing, paint and learn. Adults take turns participating in discussions about issues in child development and every session includes group singing and stories for the children. The instructors are marvelous- educated, loving and open to your concerns. Only 2 and half hours a week, these classes are great for stay at home or working parents. Some couples rotate attending with their work schedule. It's a great way for a career parent to be with their children in a warm, structured environment.

Last year my daughter and I started in the Infant Toddler Program at Pacific Oaks Children's School in Pasadena. The Infant-Toddler program ranges from 6 months to 2 years with the parent onsite while the child is there.
The children are encouraged to learn experientially by experimenting with water, sand, soft and hard toys, climbing, painting, etc. There is a 20 minute observation period for parents and a facilitated discussion by the head teacher of various parenting issues such as sibling rivalry, sleep habits, tantrums, etc. They follow the RIE, Resources for Infant Educarers by Magda Gerber. As a parent, you will learn to alter your adult expectations and gain confidence in your parenting skills.
The school goes up Pre-K and Kindergarten and follows a well-rounded anti-bias curriculum. Parents of lower income, same-sex households, single parents, ethnic and cultural diverse backgrounds encourages to apply. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.
The school is located under the umbrella of a college where they teach students at an undergraduate and graduate levels the application and theory of Early Childhood Education.

There are so many things to love about this wonderful preschool. The grounds and classrooms are clean, roomy and well maintained. The teachers and staff are genuinely loving and remarkably well trained. As a co-op, the school offers parents the priceless opportunity of watching their children learn, grow and interact with others. The school offers a variety of attendance- mornings or afternoons, 2 or 3 or 5 days a week. The tuition is among some of the lowest around. But best of all, the children love it. Anyone looking for a marvelous self-guided, exploration and play based learning environment should definitely stop by for a tour.
