The Norton Simon Museum offers a wonderful collection of paintings and sculpture, from 14th century to contemporary. They have guided tours available in groups, or self-guided audio tours. The first Friday of every month is free admission; otherwise it's $8 for adults. It's a nice place to go by yourself, or with your whole family.

I have visited this museum several times. It is free for students and the parking is also free. What more could you ask for? There are a lot of bronze sculptures throughout by Degas. The museum has an extensive collection of Degas works. This is a very good sized museum. It is not so big that you are overwhelmed (a la Getty) but is large enough so that there is plenty to see. My favorite is a painting of a garden by Monet called Artist's Garden at Vetheuil. Pictures of it in books really do not do the work justice.

For a small museum, this baby packs a puch. With such heavy hitters as Rembrandt, Degas, and Picasso, this isn't your typical "santa fake-bougie, that matches my couch" kind of gallery lining the streets of West LA. The coollecctionn also includes Van Gogh, Cezanne and many many many pieces by the formost Cubists of their era. The boottom flooor is a bit of a shift as it houses its ancient Eastern artifacts collectioon including many Buddhist and Hindu sculptures and paintings. Don't miss the garden and pond outside as these are works oof art themselves Call ahead,, I think they're closed Tuesdays.

This place is fabulous. I've gone there on school field trips and with the family. First of all and most importantly it is the perfect size. This museum has its own unique taste in art that differs from all the large famous museums. There is plenty to see and the quality is amazing. They usually have some sort of temporary exhibit. When I was there, it was a collection of art collages. It was also affordable and nicely air conditioned, so a great place to go on that hot summer day

There are permanent collections, but special exhibitions, lectures and events enhance this special museum experience. This museum is located near many fine restaurants and attractions so it is a great place to spend a day.

Norton Simon museum is located at the end of the Colorado street across Ralphs. It is always one of my top choices to go at the end of the shopping day especially during summer. It doesn't occupy a big area as MOCA, but the contents are quiet enough for visitors to stay for 2 hours to learn and look. I think the 3 main sections show the highlights of strong art periods around the world. I recommend art students to stroll around and take a closer look at the art works instead of just memorizing the terms from the books. Parking fee is not required and free for students!
