On the advice of our small-town vet, we took our pitbull to Oradell for an emergency CT scan and possibly surgery. Upon arriving, we were informed that our dog's health was not in jeapordy, and although she was in significant pain, she clearly was not losing nerve function. We were denied a same-day MRI scan (they do not have the facilities to perform the less-expensive CT scan and recommended an MRI) and rather than bringing her back the next day for the scan, we opted to keep her confined to the house and doped up on pain meds while we planned our next move. The prices we were quoted for scans and surgery were astronomical. The doctor we spoke with sounded and acted as though he came straight from classes to the hospital. We were offered a consultation with the neurologist for an additional fee. I gather from reading reviews that Oradell is a pretty remarkable facility, and that it is open for emergencies 24/7/365. That is an impressive service, and I have no doubt that thei

Oradell is an amzing hospital, and the staff there is great. They do everything they can to help pets and their owners, and contrary to what people on here are saying, they are not in it for the money. Trust me, they could be making substantially more money if they went into human medicine, whether that be MD or nursing. Don't believe the negative reviews. I am a veterinarian, and I would take my pets to Oradell any day.

I took my cat to OAH as he was diabetic and highly ketonic. This is considered an emergency situation that needs to be treated quickly.
He was evaluated at the entry desk by a vet tech but I was told to take him to the waiting room. About 10 minutes later, I was taken to an exam room where I waited over 45 minutes for a vet to examine him.
He was finally admitted to critical care about 30 minutes later.
The first night they said he did well but the second night they said he took a turn for the worse. They said the probable cause was the fact that they had given him meds that they didn't think should be administered to a ketonic cat. They said they did so because I had said he tended to get ill when he missed a dose. I was shocked. They were essentially blaming me. They told me he wasn't doing well so I rushed to the hospital.
Then they told me that he had cancer based on ultrasounds. Another shock. I had to have him put to sleep as he was in very bad shape. He had ultr

I just had to pipe in here.
I'm doing rescue a very long time 20 years in the tri-state area..Boxer Rescue to be specific.
I Have seen it all in vet care.. from the worst to the best. I clearly recall Oradell years ago. ( when they were in Oradell) They had two questions when you walked in with your pet.
1.what's wrong? and 2. how will you be paying?
I used them maybe 3 times. I'm going back years ago... 18 to 20 years ago.
I was not impressed and choose to use the other Emergency Clinic in Caldwel ... ( now in Fairfield) over the years.
This bring me to the topic at hand.
My 9 yr old Boxer Madison collapsed suddenly on 9/1. MY regular vet Dr. Brenda King in Montclair was already gone for the day.
( BTW . Dr. King is excellent.. she has never been wrong in the 20 years she has treated my animals.and the many referrals i've sent to her)
I rushed her to the emergency vet in Fairfield NJ.
The doctor felt she needed a cardiologist. They did not have one on staff :(

I am outraged at the experience I had at this so called animal hospital. I brought my cocketiel bird there which I later found out was in heart failure. After making me and my small child wait about an hour, the vet came out and told me the prognosis was not good. She then said they would treat the bird and see what would happen. She said she would return with an estimate. She then returned with a written estimate for 2200.00 for all kinds of chest xrays, blood work, lab work anything under the sun for this little bird who was already 80% gone. In my distress (as my six year old was also crying now) I told her I could not commit to that price. The bird itself was only 120.00 but that was not the point. she told me well you can take your bird home then, but it may have a disease that people can get! Great. Otherwise if I did not sign this paper and commit to 2200.00 treatment they wold not treat the bird. I asked her if I could make payments and she said no, and told me I needed to leav

I was sent to another hospital by my vet and after reading the reviews for this hospital I decided not to go there. I found OAH and am very happy that I did. I knew the type of surgery that my cat needed and I understood the operation would be costly. They quoted me a price of $180 for the consult and $2500 for the surgery. I found the money and was prepared to pay. After the surgery I found out the consult only came to $90 and the surgery was only $1300. Any other tests that had to be done I was told the price first. Overall the staff was wonderful and very helpful. They all seem to really love thier job and it shows. I was very pleased with the service that I have received and would recommend this hospital!
Pros: Very warm and friendly staff
Cons: none

OAH is an excellent facility with brilliant DVMs. Yes it is pricey, but MRIs, X-rays, and the myriad other diagnostics are not cheap anywhere, and you do truly get hwat you pay for. Every doctor we've seen has been caring and compassionate, and has been willing to test out our hypotheses instead of shrugging them off. I do think that the naysayers believe that doctors cannot or should not be wrong, which is simply not true.

I have been going to Oradell now for about ten years with multiple animals. Yes, they are expensive and I would not purchase your medications from them as they are often double the price you can get elsewhere. As to the comment about interns, they are not. But these young doctors getting experience at a trauma facility have the latest knowledge from their schools on new treatments; one of them made all the difference for my dog by suggesting a new pain med for his arthritis that works on the nerves. It's the only thing that made a difference. I have been able to maintain a relationship with his doctors (we see a cardiologist, opthalmologist and a GP). I think if my dogs were young and healthy I would find a regular vet, but if your dog has special needs or if, like me, everything seems to happen on nights and weekends, then OAH is the place to go. Yes, once or twice over the years I've had someone I didn't care for, but for the most part I have liked the doctors and felt th

Our dog was treated at OAH after other vet recommended putting her down. We managed to keep her another 2 yrs. During this period we pretty much saw same dr (Sartor, very compassionate). When we got a new dog, we retd to OAH for routine visits. I asked that whomever we saw, wud be our doctor all the time. Now we have 2nd dog & was told doctor is no longer w/practice. Bottom line, you will receive quality care for yur pets, but it won't be cheap, however if you want to establish any kind of relationship w/doctor, then probably won't happen here. I'm researching new vet now & see that many intern at OAH, then move on, this explains why so many of their doctors are all business, push for tests & incompassionate. They probably won't ever see you again, so they don't care! I will admit that i argued some chrgs when 1st dog was hospitalized & was given a credit. Example of chrgs, OAH ofc visit is $93, our cats' vet chrgs $69, others in my town chrg as low as $45. I wud use OAH for serio
