I moved to the area from Los Angeles a few years ago and was paralyzed with fear with the idea of trying a new salon. I tried Juut b/c I love Aveda products and b/c the price was consistent with what I normally pay for a master-level stylist in NYC or LA (I figured if I paid the same, I would get about the same - not a miracle, but at least a little help). I was deeply surprised and pleased when Louise actually DID work miracles with my hair - she is hands down the BEST stylist I have ever had. My hair is extremely difficult to work with b/c it's curly and very fine, and I have TONS of it. Louise is such an amazing stylist that I would literally and happily pay her twice as much (plus, she's always been totally happy and willing to cut it to last a little longer between cuts - 4 to 6 months instead of 2-3). I recommend her to everyone - and ESPECIALLY to anyone with curly (read: nightmare) hair. I cannot tell you how many compliments I get - even my mother, who notoriously hates everything I've ever done to my hair, told me how great my hair lookes and asked what I've been doing differently. For the first time, my curly hair is a blessing instead of a curse. Louise is a GENIUS. Best of all, I don't have to stress about what I want - I can ask her to do what she thinks is best - and she does, and she's always right., even while she's sensitive to what I /do/ want (length, level of daring, etc.) No matter what, my hairstyle is always beautiful and fashion conscious. I cannot recommend her highly enough. And to those of you who have complained about the price, I understand it's pricey - but If you're willing to pay $150 for an outfit you'll wear a couple of times (or even a couple outfits you'll wear several times), I think it's well worth the investment to pay for a fabulous haircut you'll wear every day, rain or shine, for the next 3-6 months (or longer). Louise is a hair master - and she's also a really nice, funny, and warm person. Louise ROCKS!
Pros: amazing style, friendly staff, wonderful products (but no product pushing)
Cons: lighting is a little too low, ambience not as serene as would be expected, must book appts. a month in advance

I've gone to Juut Salon spas for several years, and always look forward to my haircut and color. The staff there is friendly, professional, and great and what they do. I'd suggest Louise is an awesome stylist, and nobody beats John for an excellent color. I'd avoid Denise, as she tends to overbook customers and may have you waiting for hours with the color on your hair or she may have someone else finish the job.
Be prepared to pay a pretty hefty fee for all of this glamour. But then again, you do wear your hair every day, right??

I have gone to Juut on University Ave three times for combination high/low-lights for my hair. The first time I went to Juut, the color faded out in literally a week. The hair colorist was not super-experienced and although I told her my color history, she didn't recommend a "fill-in" treatment. I went back to complain and the management-- to their credit --had a more experienced colorist do a correction with fill first (gratis, I gave a generous tip). The results were decent enough that I decided to come back 5 weeks later. The second time, the result was a little calico-cat-ish. That is, I had about 7 different colors of blonde, dark blonde and reddish in my hair (if you've had high-and-low-lights done, you probably know what I mean). I figured the colorist was just getting used to the way my hair responded and the next time would be better. The third time I went, she seemed to listen to how I wanted cool blonde tones -- not brassy, not calico. For one of Juut's supposedly top colorists ($$$) who had worked with my hair before, it should have been near-perfect. Unfortunately, she stuck me under the drier with foils on for WAAYYY too long. I have never been under a drier for more than 20-25 minutes with foils; she left me there for about 45 minutes. Another stylist asked if I was supposed to still be there and I said I felt like my colorist had forgotten me. Sure enough, the other stylist found my colorist and suddenly it was important to take the foils out right away. My hair was fried: totally dry and lighter than I had requested (though to her credit, in the right family of tones). She admitted as much when she offered a free conditioning treatment --didn't fix the damage. I didn't feel like I could go complain to management again since they would have thought I was psycho-picky. But I was really disappointed with the results and feel the colorists at Juut are negligent --or at least too busy or scattered to pay attention to their work.

The cutter simply would not listen to what I wanted. I said repreatedly--repreatedly--that I do not like my hair short. Keep the style the same and just take off a half inch. No, she took off a good inch and a half. I will NEVER go back.
It's my ego that they should attend to, not their's.
Pros: Nearby
Cons: not listening to customer.

I had a horrible haircut there after my stylist who used to work there moved to a different salon. The stylist cut my hair about an inch shorter than I wanted (I brought in pictures and showed her exactly where I wanted it to on my shoulder) and didn't even dry my hair! For $70 I expected more. But I LOVE the waxing there- it's amazing! Holly is the best ever- she takes her time and makes you feel immediately relaxed. It's hands down the best I've ever had.
Pros: Great waxing
Cons: Hairstylists

I would suggest traveling a little bit -- go up to the Aveda salon Juut in Palo Alto, or go down to the Aveda salon Atelier down on Santana Row in San Jose, I've had great experiences at both places
