This is my favorite restaurant in Palo Alto. They have a great menu that changes continually to highlight seasonal items. Preparations are fresh, creative and tasty. The ambience is wonderful and integrates a romantic sensibility with a noisy energy, giving the place a buzzing vibe. The wine list is awesome -- with rare finds and wonderful treats -- but also pricey. Wait staff is great --- warm, personable and highly knowledgable.

Zao's is small, but their food is like no other. Very fresh, always healthy, and so very good. They have low carb items to offer as well. Waiters are friendly, they have take out, they offer wine and beer, and their food is different, with a healthy twist but everything is tasty, not like some healthy food. Has sort of a Thai food bent, however it is more than that; probably doesn't fit into a category except many of the dishes do have noodles, rice and other. Veggies always fresh. Soup is superb. They are open all day long, which is nice. The only down side is that it gets a little noisy on weekends when it is crowded. Sometimes there is a wait as well.
However, this is a place I have taken many over seven years, and none have been disappointed.
PROS: Delicious food, healthy and fresh, slightly different, some Thai food
CONS: Occasionally gets a little loud

this is a small noodle bar on University Ave in palo alto. The food is good, but a little more expensive than it maybe should be, especially the appetizers. They have great spring rolls and summer rolls, and all their main noodle dishes are very large (which helps to make up for it being somewhat expensive). The service is generally good and fairly quick. Nice ambiance, casual and small, but nice high ceilings give it a open feeling. The pho is just ok. I think it's much better at more authentic vietnamese places, but it's quite adequate at Zao. Their noodle stir frys are their best offering.

My girlfriend and I frequent this restaurant on monthy if not twice monthly basis. The Sweet & Sour chicken is definately some of the best I have had. It is drizzled perfectly with Sweet & Sour sauce and the fresh crisp vegetables mixed in with this entree is delicious. I have also had the Sesame Chicken which is tasty, mildly spicy and also very good. This place is perfect for lunch or for a quick bite to eat at the end of the day. The complimentary hot tea is accomadating and worthwhile no matter the temperature outside!
Pros: Portions, Freshness
Cons: Parking

OK, it is convenient as it is just across the street from Stanford, but it is amazingly expensive. Use expedia.com or some other service if you want a room there. For $400, you get a very basic and depressing room. It tries to have a nice ambience, but it is right on El Camino a super busy strip.
The health club is pretty good and there's a heated pool, but otherwise, it should really be called the Westin Motel. There are better choices like the Garden Court or the Stanford Park...

Vero offers up traditional, authentic Italian dishes in a nice setting just off of University Ave in Palo Alto. Reasonably quiet and mellow - not bustling. Rarely crowded. Probably because food is good - but not a standout. They don't try to add a california twist to their dishes - just straight up Italian. Given that - it's surprising they don't use homemade pasta - or some other kind of touch like that to make the food a bit more irresistible. Zuppa de Pesce was fine with fresh seafood ingredients but broth was not anything extraordinary and it kind of overwhelmed the taste of everything else. Pasta Carbonara was fine. Overall - I think this is a nice place to try but not likely a place I'll come back to a lot. Much prefer La Strada just down the street.

Truly a landmark spot in Palo Alto. In the middle of Unviersity Avenue, both the exterior and interior represent the Stanford University avenue scene. Great food, service and crowds of students and professionals working, meeting, and chatting. This hotspot uses the AeONsafe secured WiFi, which is faster than AnchorFree and fully encrypted wireless. Since it is secured, I work there more frequently.
