If you plan to breastfeed, make the time to take her one-night course in breastfeeding via the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (on El Camino at University Avenue). It will save you hours of research and fully educate you on what to expect and how to plan ahead for a successful start to breastfeeding. As I say, "Labor is for a day, but breastfeeding is forever (or at least it can feel that way!)". She is also available for an office or home visit to assist you in getting your newborn to properly latch on (which is how you avoid pain). What's more, once she knows you, she can provide you advice by phone for free. She has solved more than one breastfeeding mystery ("Why is my baby vomiting so often?") for my family. Moreover, she is a dynamic, confidence-building individual who is a delight to interact with. Ironically, she used to be an exec in the high tech industry until she had breastfeeding problems and became an evangelist for practical planning so women could have successful breastfeeding experiences! I cannot recommend her enough to professional-minded women who want to start off their breast-feeding right. Don't be fooled by imitations--get Joanna!

Small, family-run pharmacy. I have been going there for 20+ years. Ben and the other pharmacists explain all drugs and check interactions of new drugs with your current prescriptions, answer questions. Ben has an amazing knowledge of drugs and interactions. Once he found a potentially dangerous interaction that my prescribing doctor was unaware of. Small-town service; very helpful, they greet you by name.

Although Stanford is a good 45 minutes away for me, it became an absolute necessity for me to check out this treatment center because I had a disturbing history with scalp psoriasis that had suddenly flared up and spread. I debated seeing a dermatologist in my city, but my old one had moved away a few years ago. Stanford ending up being just what I needed, they provided a bunch of useful info over the phone through a triage nurse who gave me the names of topical over the counter medications that I could use to get me by before going to my appointment. Unfortunately, since Stanford IS so prestigious, they were booked for months and I had to wait for what seemed like forever to actually see a doctor in person. When I did, my psoriasis was cured in a few treatments.

My brother had a swollen gland and none of the peninsula hospitals knew what it was. We were recommended to Lucille Packard Children's Hospital and not only did he receive the best care possible, they also found out what was wrong with him. The atmosphere is so family friendly and takes the scare out of visiting the hospital. They have toys, books, and other comfortable things for your childen in every room, office, and corridor. This hospital is huge and God bless the people who work here. It's a really great place.
