Vero offers up traditional, authentic Italian dishes in a nice setting just off of University Ave in Palo Alto. Reasonably quiet and mellow - not bustling. Rarely crowded. Probably because food is good - but not a standout. They don't try to add a california twist to their dishes - just straight up Italian. Given that - it's surprising they don't use homemade pasta - or some other kind of touch like that to make the food a bit more irresistible. Zuppa de Pesce was fine with fresh seafood ingredients but broth was not anything extraordinary and it kind of overwhelmed the taste of everything else. Pasta Carbonara was fine. Overall - I think this is a nice place to try but not likely a place I'll come back to a lot. Much prefer La Strada just down the street.

Because my parents really love this restaurant, I often tag along. Recently I have eaten here alone, and there really isn't much of a difference. Service is excellent; the food is authentic Italian without a huge price tag. Seafood selections are fresh, and the pastas, especially the raviolis, are house-made. The Clams and Mussels-in-Garlic Appetizer is among the best regular dishes. The menu also includes house specials that change often. This is the best affordable Italian on the Peninsula.
Pros: Food, Service/Ambience, Value/Location

Had the Lemon Ravioli for lunch. It tasted wonderful, but the poriton size was really small (even for lunch). Tables were a little close together. Very nice interior. Priced just under $20 a head for lunch (tax and tip included).
Pros: Good Food
Cons: Expensive, Small portions

I've been here plenty of times and the pasta is delicious! Sometimes the sausage is a tad salty, but, hey, it's sausage. My favorite here is Penne Nucino. It's just the right amount of creme! I also loved the tiramisu here!!! The wine was so-so, and the staff is mostly nice. Some staff members are nicer than others, but that's everywhere. The food comes out slower when it's busy, I've been eating at off-peak times and it's nice to hold privtae conversations! If the staff is no so attentive, the bus boys always are.
Pros: great pasta

Rumored to be Chelsea Clinton's favorite place to eat when she was a Stanford co-ed, this restaurant still sports an autographed photo commemorating a vist by her famous family. Excellent homemade pastas. Hearty osso bucco great comfort food on those cold rainy winter evenings.

Went here for the first time this weekend with my husband and seven-year old son. Was initially put-off when no one greeted us and our first interraction with the host was a hand-in-the-face as he walked past us to sit a regular who entered after us. All was forgiven, however. The host, perhaps knowing his faux pas, was extremely gracious thereafter. Our server was wonderful -- after admitting our ignorance of Italian wines, he didn't talk down to us but recommended a wonderful bottle that paired perfectly with our meal. And our meal!!!! Everything was delicious!!! We started with the artichoke bottoms with shrimp and a glass of presecco -- palatte pleasing to the extreme!. Next, the melon and prociutto was simple and perfect. My husband had the spinach pasta with bay shrimp, I had the spinach pasta with chicken and my son had a half-order of the tortellini with prociutto, peas and cream. We were all fighting over who's was best. We were drooling over the carpaccio delivered to our neighbor and have promised to order that next time. We sat towards the back of the restaurant in warm/cozy table. It was a fabulous family meal. We couldn't believe our tab when the check came!!! It was the deal of the century. We will most definitely return and cannot wait until our next meal at Osteria.
Pros: Fabulous Food at Fair Prices for the Whole Family
Cons: Can't think of any
