Overcharging 5/3/2010

PAMF is overcharging for the simple medical visits. The basic simple visit will be $185 and the next level will be $277 (complex) in 2010. How do they determine that? PAMF charged $277 for the office visit for the cold diagnosed as complex. more

Careful when selecting a Dermatologist 2/25/2010

If you ever need nevus (mole) removed, for example, go to any Dermatologist at PAMF, but please don't be in a hurry to get Karen F. Han, as your Derm. She shakes a lot when she does incisions and suturing on people. Many patients have gotten infections afterword, when going to her for a service. more

Unresponsive 1/27/2010

Good: Punctual. Bad: Met with surgeon (Dr. Feng) who recommended hernia repair surgery. Attempted four times to telephone his office to schedule procedure. No calls were returned. Telephoned PAMF Redwood City office and asking for help. Upon hearing the story, the person answering the call said "what do you want me to do about it". Improvements: Vast overhaul of customer service.. more

Depends upon doctor 11/28/2008

I have a great GP but have seen a few 'specialists' over the years that displayed little interest during the visit and each of those times I walked away feeling I had wasted my time and the insurance's money. But, there are more excellent 'specialists' than not, just do your homework before simply making an appointment with 'the next available'. more

Ripping patient off 5/19/2008

We went to PAMF urgent care center on a Sunday for medical assistance on a broken arm. We got some X-rays which is basically all that's to it for the 3-hour long visit. After seeing low ratings of PAMF's specialists, we decided to see a doctor outside of PAMF. When we asked their radiology department to give us the X-rays, they said it's all digital now and we would have to pay $20 to get it on a CD. Since we paid for the X-ray exam, we feel that PAMF is ripping us off. Needless to say we will never use that facility again. more

I love this hospital... 5/12/2006

My doctor Dr.Kroes is an amazing doctor. I had some tests done and I was very worried he actually called me at work and we had a nice conversation he wanted to see how I was doing and told me my results..That made me feel at ease and very satisfied with not just Dr.Kroes but the whole facility. You never wait more then 15 minutes.. more

There are better choices out there 12/26/2005

OK, it is convenient as it is just across the street from Stanford, but it is amazingly expensive. Use expedia.com or some other service if you want a room there. For $400, you get a very basic and depressing room. It tries to have a nice ambience, but it is right on El Camino a super busy strip. The health club is pretty good and there's a heated pool, but otherwise, it should really be called the Westin Motel. There are better choices like the Garden Court or the Stanford Park... more

Vai Rangarajan 8/15/2005

I have been so impressed with Dr. Rangarajan. She is very competent, efficient, personable, and thorough. I asked her an off-the-cuff question about my calcium intake and she spewed very specific info on the milligrams I needed and the sources for it. She checked in with me about it the next time we met. She answers all my questions thoroughly and never makes me feel rushed. But she's prompt and I never have to wait to see her. When I call for a regular exam, I'm always offered an appointment the next day. more

Bay Area doctors 8/14/2005

My experience at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation spanned only a couple years, but it gave an overall very good impression. The administration is quick, helpful, and efficient. All of my requests have been processed in a timely manner with great results. My primary care physician was great with her patient interaction, knowledge, and ability to convey her knowledge to the patients. I definitely recommend this foundation. more

Good Solid Primary Care Facility 7/16/2005

Founded as a non-profit to insure even the poor and disadvantaged could afford health care, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation or PAMF has had a few troubles recently stemming from overcharging of indigent patients. The mission has not changed, and it staff is full of top-notch doctors, technicians, and lab attendants. It is one of the leading health care facilities in the area, and also one of the better ones. IT's relatively new campus, centrally located right in Palo Alto, is hard to miss -- it's a well designed location that aids the foundation in it's goal of first-class service. It has a close relationship with Stanford University, due to proximity and sharing of resources. more
