We have had Chinese food all over the world, including China, Hong Kong, New York and San Francisco.......this is by far the best we have had! We enjoyed salt & pepper scallops, Minced chicken in lettuce leaves, tiger prawns, honey beef with garlic, fried rice and pea shoots with garlic. Each dish was excellent....beautifully prepared, flavored perfectly.......quality of the ingredients was outstanding.
Go there!
Pros: service, food quality

Kanpai is located on Lytton in downtown Palo Alto and is a great local find. The restaurant was not crowded when we went for dinner and the atmosphere is very nice -- you can have a nice conversation over a leisurely dinner. Service was wonderful -- very attentive and fast. The food was delicious. My friend and I both ordered a variety of sushi and everything was fresh and beautifully presented. Their spinach salad is terrific as is their seaweed salad. Prices were very reasonable for such high quality sushi in Palo Alto. I highly recommend it -- go while it's still a bit unknown and not too crowded as it's sure to become very popular.

I love this place. Cho's has been here for over 20 years, with Mr. Cho and his wife serving the same delicious dumplings. Believe it or not, until 8 or 10 years ago the dining area next door to the counter didn't exist, and there were three tiny tables squeezed into the side of the room you could sit at. It's best to come during 'normal' busy times when there is more food available and it's more likely to be ready immediately.
Mr. Cho doesn't talk much. He'll gladly take your order, ring it up, and then blandly tell you it will be 45 minutes until your order is ready (if the prepped food has sold out). It can be quite entertaining watching the unsuspecting first-timers walk in at 3:30 in the afternoon for a quick bite, give their order, and then receive this news. Shock and disbelief. Mr. Cho just nods. Oh, you want to cancel your order then? Ok. Not his problem.
But the food is great and absolutely authentic. Call ahead if you want to just pick up or worry something might be out and take too long.
Pros: Great food, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, the inimitable Mr. Cho!
Cons: Sometimes out of various items.

Homma's is tucked into an alley with a really small hanging sign on the street as the only obvious indicator to passers-by of its location. If you can find it, you'll won't mind at all. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The brown rice is a wonderful change from the typical sushi fare.
The atmosphere is simple to say the least, but what they're saving on decor is definitely passed along by keeping the prices low.
I highly recommend it.
Pros: Unique Brown Rice, Fresh Fish, Great Prices
Cons: Hard to Find

My boyfriend and I read a few reviews about Thai restaurants in the Palo Alto area before deciding on this one, and we're glad we did! We started with the shrimp spring rolls and they were fresh and delicious and came with 3 great sauces. For dinner we had the red curry and green curry, both flavorful and the perfect balance of vegetables and chicken. A word of caution, we both enjoy spicy food and ordered our entrees "5 star." Even for heat-lovers, this was a bit too spicy for us. We were sweating bullets. If you enjoy spicy, I would recommend ordering 3 star. It is still spicy without overpowering the food. The service was also friendly and prompt.
Pros: Food delivered to order very quickly
Cons: Some difficuly communicating with server

Are you looking for one of those local places with excellent, fresh fish, with all homemade and handpicked ingredients and great value? Then this is the place. It dose get crowded on Friday nights, as a lot people like to just relax with friends and family after a long week. I have been to Japan many times, and this place compares to a local, hole in the wall, excellent, Japanese joint. The good eats are the Bret Hand Roll, Sake Scallop Hand Roll, Tomo Tempura Roll, Leslie Special Roll (with lemon on top), and the Japango! And the albacore tends to have more flavor then most other people's toro. And Tomo has Toro too! ;) Come by and say hi, just have a seat, grab a beer or sake and start up a conversation with someone you never met before at this great little sushi joint!
