This is the best New Orleans style food I've had outside the South. It's fresh and authentic and has a real blend of flavors: they don't cook stuff until it's all mushed into one flavor; rather, you can taste multiple different subtle (and, depending on the dish, not-so-subtle) flavors in each bite.
It's usually crowded and noisy. The servers are sometimes overworked: they're always on the go and I never see them lazing around, but it's still sometimes hard to get drink refills and so on.
I should make it clear that I'm a certified old fuddy-duddy and like to converse over dinner. For some young single folks the noise might be part of the excitement.
If you're looking for New Orleans-style food, this is the place to go.
Pros: The chef(s) really know how to cook New Orleans style food right.
Cons: The noise, the crowding

Good time, good service, good food, bullride. Especially if you're a regular, it is a warm, happy place despite the large size.
Pros: Good menu, a lot of regulars, good service, patio
Cons: Too crowded during big sporting events

I must say, this is one of the things I miss the most about home. Being away at school in San Diego is difficult without my local Counter. The overall vibe of the restaurant is very nice. It is a great place for lunch or dinner.
While they do have a menu with burgers and soups, it is all about the build-your-own-burger. They have chicken or beef, a few different sizes, different buns to choose from (honey wheat is my favorite), toppings, gourmet toppings such as avocado, portabello mushrooms, etc., and a great variety of sauces to choose from. This is no ordinary burger joint.
Their fries are great too! They have regular fries, sweet potato fries, and onion strings. You can get an order with just one of the above or a little of each. Never had their shakes, but they look amazing!
If you are craving a burger, go here. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I went to lunch at the new St. Michael's Alley on Thursday. It was amazing. The new space has a bar, and casual tables, the colors are warm and inviting. The owners are were there to answered many questions my husband had about the 300 yr. old walnut tree made into the bar and the beautiful farmhouse windows. We started with the Wild Mushroom Cake with creamy garlic herb sauce. Fantastic, I had the Tossed Baby Green Salad with warm walnuts, and warm herb encrusted goat cheese, dried cranberries. The salad was delicious and filling. The cold crisp greens with the warm goat cheese was perfect. My hubby had a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. A bit different than usual with a bacon taste, big clams and potato, very good but different. He followed with a grilled chicken sandwich with prosciutto and fontina cheese on sour dough. Again, a mixture of texture and taste that works. We look forward to dinner next and having drinks on the new patio. Well worth the wait St. Michael's Alley. Good job we will be back with friends.
Pros: Seasonal menu, fresh good food, warm and inviting
Cons: Didn't see any

I took my husband the two children to Taxi's for dinner and had an excellent experience, would definitely return. The food was good, service was fast (a plus with children), the beer was cold (a plus for adults) and the restaurant was clean. One of the best burgers around!

The atmosphere is electric, upbeat, and friendly. The food is out of this world. They are able to offer a large variety of food but never sacrifice the taste of it. Shakes are dangerously addictive. It was also nice going in with a large group and being accomodated and not turned away. But on lunch breaks, the bar is always a nice place to get a quick bite and not take up too much room. Coconut cake is a MUST.
Pros: Food food food. Service Service Service.
Cons: Parking. Sometimes there is a wait b/c its so busy

Beef. And Beer. That's what Gordon Biersch is all about. I loved going here, and when I lived a block away, it was so very tempting, all the time. The high price tag of quality, fortunately, prevented me from gorging myself regularly on succulent steaks and premium Gordon Biersch beers (not sure if they brewed the beer right there or not, but it was always good).
Parking's a bit of a hassle (unless you're lucky enough to live next door ;) but there's usually plenty of parking under City Hall, two blocks away (on Ramona), and you can usually use a walk after stuffing yourself here. It's also not a bad distance from the CalTrain station (about four blocks). It's a great place to eat, and it's really good, so be prepared for a bit of a wait -- but be prepared to think it was all worth it!
PROS: Awesome steak, beers
CONS: Not cheap

I went here for my birthday 3 years in a row, I loved it so much. I always start off with the calamari, the sauce that goes with it is great. The clam chowder is to-die-for, and the prime rib of course is awesome!
Our waiters were always quick, friendly, and professional. The restaurant is pretty dark, but I never mind.
