Steak and Shake has the atmosphere of a 60s diner. It's kept very clean and as someone mentioned before, the servers are very very friendly. They have a an extensive menu of burgers, chilli, shakes, all kinds of side dishes and a great kids menu as well. It's a great place to bring children because you don't have to worry about neatness or noise. Everyone is talking, so your kids don't have to be quiet. Plus they have those cool paper placemats to color on with crayons :)

My boyfriend and I took our niece to this Steak 'n Shake last week. When we walked in the door, our waiter was super friendly. He just doted on our niece... and his upbeat, positive attitude made us both comment on his personality. Lance was his name... just in case someone should like to go there & check out the service. :) I ordered a taco salad... he informed me that he made it personally himself and that he made it just how he liked it (this was one of his favorite things to eat there, he said) and if I didn't like it to let him know, he would make another one. I loved it. It was perfect. My boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwhich, and we decided to share cheesy fries. That's where the "Great" rating comes into play. The rest of the food was awesome... and of course, the staff was great. But the cheesy fries were awful. Fries with Cheese sauce. We ate a few, and then didn't even touch the rest. Had the cheesy fries been up to par, this rating would have been a 5 star perfect. But those fries were just nasty.... period. We left him a nice tip, mainly because of the person he was and the fact he was always making sure everything was ok. He always commented on our niece, and was always smiling. It is Lance that saved Steak 'n Shake from a poorer rating. So Lance, if you ever read this, you did a wonderful job. Hopefully some local residents will stop in to say hi and mention they saw you on Judy's Book. You deserve the recognition. :)
