My husband and I eat here several times a year and we have never had a bad experience. The service and food are always excellent and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel like a special guest. The appetizer canoe is fantastic and all of the fish dishes I have tried are superb. This is a great place for a special occasion too. You will not be disappointed if you eat here!
Pros: excellent, consistent food and service

We went for our anniversary dinner last night. Both the food and service were OK. Not what I expected from this level of restaurant. I've lived in Orlando for a while and as a foodie I've been to most good to great Orlando restaurants. The tuni appetizer was too acidic and was a bit hard to eat. My crispy yellow tail snapper was good but not great. There was an assortment of noodles and veggies that were drowning in a brown sauce.
We got your signature souffle dessert. It was overcooked! The outside was a tad hard and had a slightly 'burned' taste on the outside. I've made souffle many times at home and had it at restaurants like Le Coq Au Vin. It was no where near as expertly done as this.
The service was slow all night. We had to ask for coffee more than once before it came and several other requests were forgotten and we had to ask twice.
I am about easy going as you can believe when it comes to being patient at a restaurant and rarely complain about anything. We are one of those people the start tipping at 20% and go from there. This night I tipped 15% because this experience just wasn't up to par.
Pros: Nice atmosphere, friendly staff
Cons: Food and service were average

My husband and I first went to Roy's when were were on vacation in Hawaii and we fell in love. Honestly I can't understand any of the complaints in the other reviews, as we have never had a bad experience at the Orlando location. Most recently we were there in June and July 2008 and both times our service and food was wonderful.
I always find it amusing when people complain about the size of the entree. It is proof positive that we, as Americans, are so used to being served more food than we can possible eat with dinner. Dining out at a place like Roy's is more than just shoveling food into your mouth, but rather it is an experience. The portions served at Roy's are enough so you can enjoy a sampling of their menu and leave perfectly satisfied. On our last visit, I had the Blackened Ahi Tuna appetizer, which was OMG melt in your mouth perfect, and I had the Filet and Shrimp combo for my entree, which was done to perfection and honetly more than I could finish. My husband and I split the Chocolate Souflee and I was in heaven.
Our server was very attentive but not obnoxiously so. The environment is dressy casual and a bit loud, so if you are looking for a super quiet ambiance, you may not like the place, as the kitchen is open to the dining area, but at no time did we ever felt we had to speak over normal levels in order to be heard.
Sometimes I just wonder what people are expecting. This is not a "Polynesian" restaurant. It is Hawaiian fusion. If you want Polynesian, go to Trader Vic's or someplace at Disney and sip Mai Tai's at a cheesy tiki bar. This is a fabulous restaurant and we will continue to visit both the Orlando and Oahu locations...

We randomly chose Roy's because it was in the same parking lot as a favorite of ours Seasons 52. Since Seasons 52 didnt have high chairs in their restaurant we stopped by Roys. WE WERE SOOO HAPPY with their awesome service not only to us but our two toddlers (ages 1 & 2). Our waiter immediately brought the kids their each appetizer plate full of fresh fruits & veggies and grilled quesadilla (at no charge). There were toys already on the table (and I'm not talking about the same old crayons & paper menu). They had real toys, action figures, rattles, etc for the kids.
A total of three (3) managers stopped by our table to ask us how everything was and if the kids were happy (not to tell us to keep the kids quiet). My husband and I enjoyed our tropical drinks as various wait staff came by our table to entertain the kids. Our meals came right on time. And the dessert!!!! Yummy!! Our upside cake was wonderful and the waiter brought our dessert for the kids. And not just a scoop of vanilla ice either. Each plate had each of our kids name on it written in chocolate! The plate has a scoop of icecream with a cookie and lots of fresh berries and rich chocolate drizzled over the plate!! They were amazed!! And we were amazed that we spent almost 2 hours in the restaurant without anyone crying or screaming!!!
It was a great way to celebrate a happy occasion without getting a sitter and having to settle for an average restaurant!! Thanks to Roys!!
Pros: Catered to Kids exceptionally!!

We have been to both the Roy's restaurant in Naples and in Orlando. Our first time I was expecting a slighting snobby weight staff, but instead we had both very friendly and very knowledgeable waiters at both locations. The food was nothing short of impeccable. We don't eat out much as I don't see spending money on food that hardly better than what I can make for my family at home. But the chefs at Roy's at both these locations made every penny and every bite worth it. Through calories out the window girls and go for the chocolate dessert. It's worth the extra work out. What most impressed and shocked me about Roys was that they actually welcome children!! At some upscale restaurants when we've walked in with our child I could feel the cold eyes wondering if ours would be a screamer. But at Roy's they even have special family nights. I was so impressed that an upscale restaurant understood and valued the importance of family that it now our favorite. Thank you Roy's for having the guts to go against the norm and provide such wonderful dining experiences for us.

Roy's is one of those few fine gems in dining today. The service was superb and the food is to die for.
Roy's has an extensive wine list with a knowledgable staff that'll find a wine that'll suit you and your entree. My waiter recommended a pinot noir that went excellent with my lamb shanks. These shanks were the best lamb shanks I've ever had. They were fall-off-the-bone tender where I didn't have to use the knife they supplied.
It was on the pricier side, but with all the service and excellent food they provided, it was definitely worth it.
Pros: Food, Service, Wine

My husband and I dined at Roys for dinner recently. We both decided to order off the prix fixe menu. From start to finish we enjoyed our meal. The appetizers particulary the beef shortribs were wonderful! The entree of macadamia nut mahi in a lobster butter sauce and dessert of hot chocolate souffle could not have been better. We both thought that the cocktail menu was very creative-I loved the hawaiian martini, while he enjoyed the mai tai. Roys is not an inexpensive place to dine at however, it is well worth the cost. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly, coming over to chat and see how we were doing. We sat at the "chefs table"-a counter that overlooks the kitchen and one of the chef's happily answered our questions about other items we saw being made. I cannot wait to make a return trip to this fantastic restaurant!
Pros: Everything about the restaurant!
Cons: None

My sister and I decided to try Roy's a while back. Our server provided a 10 minute dissertation of the menu (we both can read) and it seemed as though all the servers in the restaurant were waiting on our table. It felt like 5 different servers were assigned to our table. The portions were inadequate for the price. After we were served and our server made sure everything was satisfactory you would have thought we were the only ones in the restaurant. We had to flag down another employee to get our check 20 minutes after we had finished our meal. Very disappointing service. Worth going once just to check out the unusual menu items but not worth a second visit.
Pros: Interesting Menu Items, Nice Decor, Good Parking
Cons: Service, Noisy When Bar Gets Crowded

Roy's used to be great. I've eaten there numerous times. The last few have been poor, however. The servers are "over-trained" to hard sell. It doesn't matter what you want. It's more important what they have to sell that night. Maybe yesterday's fresh fish? The food is all right but their prices have gotten too high for the value. It's just not a $100 a head place anymore. Too bad.
Pros: Great greeting, good wine list
Cons: Once the check is down forget about seeing the waiter again.
