i went in with Black dye from a box off the shelf, and Rachelle was able to not only get it out in half the time i expected it to take, but she also managed to bring it to an amazingly beautiful color with highlights as well, and left my hair feeling softer and more conditioned than it ever felt before.
i found the atmosphere in Shine to be awesome; they stylists are very chill and yet very professional, as well, and considering how much time i spent in the salon that day, i'd say they did an awesome job keeping me entertained and making sure that i had everything that i needed.

I have gone here several times to get my haircut by Rachelle, and every time it comes out great! Very entertaining place, it isn't your typical hair salon. Very fun environment and people are really easy to talk to.
This is not the place for you if you need to go to your wine tasting after, and then feed your dog some $100 a lb meat you imported from Italy. This place is fun, conversations get can get raunchy, but still professional. It feels more like you are hanging out with friends while you get professional styling rather than going to a Super Cuts and just go in and your out.
Highly recommend this place and Rachelle!
Pros: Awesome service, great listeners, great haircuts
Cons: Maybe hard to find, not very obvious to spot.

I live in Lake Nona and couldn't find a good salon near by, so I decided to make the trek out to Shine after reading so many good reviews. I called several times before I was able to speak to someone. Seth answered the phone and booked me for the next day. He is an absolute sweetheart. He listens to what you envision for your hair, then offers his suggestions. I had a wonderful time getting my hair cut there. He is very meticulous and knows what he's doing for sure. The place is definitely unique and eclectic...maybe a little too weird for some, but the staff are great. No yuppies allowed here...this is an upscale salon for down to earth people. :)
Anyways, my hair came out fabulous and the price is excellent. I will definitely come back.
Oh yea, word of advice, IGNORE the mapquest directions if you're coming from I4. Part of Park Lake St. is closed for construction for some time, so the easiest way to get there is taking east colonial (SR50) and making a right onto Mills, then it's literally about 2 blocks down on your right, you'll see park lake st. You'll see a little building with a british flag on it. :)
Pros: Upscale salon for down to earth people
Cons: They could do a better job at answering the phone

After reading reviews on Citysearch, I tried Shine a few years ago, after having spent years getting my hair cut in New York or Los Angeles. Without a doubt, Rachelle at Shine gave me the best haircut of my life, and I've been a devotee ever since. She has an incredible sense of what works for each of her custumers, but she's also a wonderful listener and does a great job of incorporating customer suggestions/requests. Each time I visit Shine, I'm even happier than I was on the last visit. In short, Rachelle is a genius -- as are the rest of the hairdressers there, all of whom are extremely friendly and talented. In addition to normal cuts, Rachelle has also styled my hair for photo shoots and national TV appearances; I couldn't be happier with her wonderful work, and I'd recommend her to anyone!!
Pros: GREAT style, reasonable price, fun environment
Cons: N/A

I left a positive comment before, but I am retracting it due to an exceptionally bad experience I had this week. I received a sub-par style and color from Rachelle, which I confirmed with another experienced professional stylist. When I explained the errors made with the style, the stylist denied that any of them were true, and essentially blamed me for what happened to my hair.
So far, the salon has failed to reimburse me for the work that was done, or for damages. They explained this was not their policy after the fact.
On September 3rd, Rachelle scheduled a follow-up discussion with me to finish our discussion that she did not honor. I left a message for the manager that night - no return call. Now I'm reading comments that suggest that she warned me and I forced her to do the style against her advice - this is not true, and my respect for Rachelle and Shine has dropped even lower. Avoid this salon and stylist - not reputable.
Cons: Unprofessional, poor work, no refunds, combative

Just so you don't think this salon is only for those looking for funky cut/color, I am a 45-year old professional (and mom to a 5-year old), and I can't have a crazy cut/color in my line of work. The stylists at Shine are very versatile and have the skills to make everyone look great!
I have lived many places in the US (big cities and small towns) and every time I move I search long and hard for a new salon & stylist. When it comes to my hair, I am not a bargain shopper -- I don't care what it costs me as long as the results are good. In spite of this, usually I can't find anywhere that I would go to more than once. This is not the case with Shane @ Shine. He always does an amazing job and I feel like a million bucks when I walk out! I just went 2 weeks ago -- cut and highlights. When my 68-year old mother saw the results, she decided to dump her old salon that she has been going to for years and try Shane.
I never write on-line reviews, but I felt I had to because the last review was neither accurate nor fair. All the stylists at Shine are wonderful, kind people with, yes, odd/crazy senses of humor. I personally love the laid-back, friendly, home-like atmosphere. I hate those uptight salons where you feel like you need to dress up and do your hair/make-up before you go. If you are looking for a salon that offers you snobbery, high prices and wine/espresso, this is definitely not the place for you. Although, Shane always has fresh coffee ready when I go in for my morning appointments..... ;-)
Pros: Cool bohemian feel, stylists are the best, easy to make an appt., no pressure to buy product
Cons: None...

I have been here a few times, mainly because their prices are cheaper relatively speaking. However, the "stylist" never did what I asked him to do, and better yet he cut my hair uneven. The staff are immature, their foul language is a turn-off, they don't offer beverages, their bathroom is a "joke". Needless to say, I am no longer a patron. I would rather spend the extra money and get a real haircut. Luckily, there are reputable salons all over Orlando that offer decent prices as well. Skip Shine.
Pros: Price
Cons: Don't answer phone, don't open on time, don't cut hair well, not personable, etc. etc. etc.

I want to recommend Shine to Everyone in search of fabulous hair! This salon is unlike any I've ever been in before and you'll likely say the same. From the moment you step through the door till it closes behind you on your way out, be prepared to experience jovial banter between everyone, clients and stylists.
The owner, Tony, and all the stylists share a pure enjoyment for making you look good and have an unrivaled rapport with each other. This relationship spills over to each client. The atmosphere ranges between eclectic conversation and raucous party but never ever is it staid or prissy. Be prepared to have fun.
Tony is not only one of the most talented stylists in Orlando, the team he has assembled in Rachelle, Seth and Shane are 'shear' genius. Add Shannon, the esthetician to the mix and be prepared to be dazzled.
Go get a cut, color or a complete style. You may even go for a relaxing facial. It doesn't matter, just do yourself a favor and GO!

I found this salon on CitySearch. Only a few negative comments and many positive. SO...I set the appointment with Tony and I have found my new salon! He is awesome, funny, witty, and does a mean job on the hair!! Love it! I had a cut, color, and one big blonde highlight, and left happy as a kid with candy. The salon is so fun, lots of unique and creative things to look at...the staff seems like they really love each other with all the quick and quirky banter. I will go to Tony as long as he has a salon in Orlando. Thanks for the good reviews from the other Shine customers! I found gold.
Pros: Skill level high, great atmosphere, and fun staff!
Cons: None....

ok, I am not someone who is overly concerned with other peoples' opinions, but when my boyfriend kept making jokes about my amateur haircut, i figured it was time for a change. After all, I am not a student anymore. Still, I hate the idea of an uptight salon with a lot of pretentious people who only care about appearances. It is inside what counts. So, I ran into this stylist at a local bar, and he convinced me to stop by. On a whim I di. The stylist I had met, Tony, was booked for the day, but he assured me one of his co-workers could do the job. Seth was not at all what I expected. I am actually pretty sure he is straight! Still, he listened to me, asked questions about the person I was, and what I liked. He wasn't surprised that I hadn't been to a salon before (I used to cut my own hair in the mirror), but realized that I had no idea what I wanted. He took control, and I was stunned! I had a smart, cool cut, but not one that looked like I was an uptight society girl. He gave me tips on how to style it myself, and they actually worked!
I have to admit, maybe going to a professional wasn't such a bad idea. The topper is, my boyfriend loved it!!
It also didn't destroy my budget. The whole experience was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll have to go back and test whether Seth is straight. Just don't tell my boyfriend!!
