HyVee has done a wonderful thing by adding organic food to its grocery stores. In Omaha, we have such a small number of stores that sell organic food that this appeared to be a great conveniece. I just wish HyVee had done it better. I am reviewing the store at 97th & Q in Ralston.
The organic food is spread out into several different areas of the store. However, the bulk of it is in their "Health Food Market." I would prefer to see it all in one place. I buy all organic so, I do not like having to search through the entire store (which may have been a marketing ploy) to find all my stuff.
Second, the dairy is often rotten and the produce is often moldy. The amount of "bad food" I have purchased (dairy and produce only) is about 50%. The bad food I have purchased has been the HyVee brand organic milk, Stoneyfield baby organic yogurt, organic fresh carrots, organic fresh peas, and organic fresh peppers. In the case of the dairy foods, they were all well within their expiration date when I opened them (maybe not refridgerated fast enough?). In the case of the peppers, when I returned them to the store, I offered to just exchange them for nonmoldy peppers. When I went through the peppers, I was upset to find that all of the peppers were bad. I carried seven packages of peppers (all that they had) back to customer service because all of them were moldy.
Overall, it is nice that HyVee is yet another place to purchase organic food. However, I do not recommend buying items from the dairy or the produce areas - make the long trip out to Whole Foods for that!!
