There is a large variety of bakery items. One of my favorites is pastry that has almond paste in it. Wagner's sells 2 items, one is the horseshoe-shaped flaky pastry (about $2.86?) and the other is a MUCH SMALLER cookie in horseshoe shape in which the almond paste is mixed in with the batter and the cookie covered with sliced almonds ($2.48). The $2.48 for a cookie seemed a very high price ($1.50 - $1.75 would be more reasonable); the $2.80 for the flaky pastry stuffed with almond paste was a much more realistic price. The cookie is good quality, however.

We don't know Olympia that well but what a lovely little place. Some of the best baked goods I have had since I lived in Germany. Wonderful cinnamon bread (the best ones are the flattest - they have the most butter and sugar density. The kids will love the chocolate covered brownie "popsicles" covered in gummie worms and snakes. There pretzel rolls are also well worth the trip.

If you like German/European style breads and desserts, this is the only place to go in Olympia. The place is very popular with locals and is usually crowded at lunchtime. The best things are the breads and desserts – a wide variety and all are very good. For special occasions or when Safeway just won’t do, it’s worth it to find that elusive parking spot downtown and get the good stuff. Prices are reasonable.
