We booked a Saturday afternoon banquet for our son's Communion party for about 45 people. We were quoted a per person price and were running a seperate tab for the bar. I called a few days prior to see if I needed to make any food choices and to give my count. I was told in a very condescending manner, " you already made your choice it was family style". Ok, so I figured everything was under control. I have had many banquets at other establishments and there are have always choices. The day of-everything seemed fine until the soup arrived, which looked very much like a cream chicken soup- which is what I expected. It turned out to be clam chowder. No one realized until after eating a good portion of the cup what it was. We then had a family member in tears because she is allergic to shellfish. Fortunately, she was ok. I asked the waitress, why clam chowder? I did not choose this. She said it's whatever the chef makes that day. I say it's more like what was left over from Friday! She went on the say that my family member should have alerted the restaurant of her allergy. Why would she for a family style lunch? It was then time to pay the bill. There was a per person total, a bar total and a seperate total for soft drinks cokes, etc. totaling 108.00 My husband (who rarely would complain about a charge on a bill) was very taken back by this. Unfortunately, we had people to thank and say good bye to so, we paid it and cleared out. This was eating at me so I called a few days later and was told thats just how they do things. She said it's stated on their menu, I never received a menu. Everything was on me, why didn't I ask, etc. I don't feel this is a common practice it should have been mentioned. I could not understand why we could not have even been offered pitchers for the kids or something. Moreover, I feel this should have been included in with the per person price. I have never heard of such a thing. I was told that they are a restaurant not a banquet facility. Funny, I booked a banquet. After about a 15 minute conversation, where I was told how completely wrong I was, I realized that I was getting nowhere. Clearly, these people do not have a very high value for their customers. I will nor will any of our friends or family consider having a banquet or patronizing this "restaurant" again. I would have been happy had they split the charges or even took some responsibility for the soup incident. All of the fault was thrown our way. It may not have been all that much money to her but it was to us - in fact, I was told how $108.00 was not going to make or break her. Are you sure? Learn how to treat your customers a little better they are the reason you are able to open your doors everyday. There are too many other great places in the neighborhood.
Pros: NOTHING!!!!
Cons: TERRIBLE ABUSIVE STAFF, OLD FOOD!!!!!!!

I have been there two times with both meals better than the recent visits of the downtown "to be seen" places. After going to Gibsons, Smith and Wolensky's, and other various steakhouses Louies Chops House gives just as good of a steakhouse experience as do the others. Louie's does charges as much as the others BUT there is no $30 parking fee, the tables are more quaint, you are NOT moved in and out like the cattle, and last but not least who cares if you are seen there or not, did I mention you do not have to get to know the otheres you are sharing a booth with?!@ No the deserts are not a mile high costing you $15 for bananna creme pie ( not better than a posh bakery on the north side), no the drinks are not $14 (I guess the extra is for the service or blue cheese?), no you are not going to see Michael Jordan or Woody Allen, or the sausge king of Chicago but you CAN enjoy just as good of a steak bone in filet or Chicago cut what ever...the prices are somewhat the same but a little more attention to who you are and NOT who everyone else is or what everyone else is doing.
Pros: Local to the southside
Cons: not too much

Funny that Louie's chophouse managers have to resort to writing fake reviews... like the one here about disgruntled staff opinions??? when people express their opinions about how lousy the place has gotten. Rather than fix the problem... i.e. train their staff not to be rude, or clean up the quality of the place in general... they would rather just be insulting to everyone with an opinion about that wretched place. I have heard this from numerous people, that this is a common thing for the managers to do! Pathetic.
Cons: The liar managers, the terrible staff, the food

I just read the previous posting about disgruntled staff opinions? And I find it laughable. The quality of the food and the quality of the service at Louie's Chophouse has gone down immensely! Rather than take the time to address the problem, the management staff at Louie's would rather have their family and friends post fake reviews like the one here. Of course, it would have to be former staff, or someone with awful taste who doesn't like their restaurant they say. I find that just insulting! And I am neither a former staff member nor do I have awful taste. I have heard that the managers of Louie's look on the web and do damage contraol with fake good postings when people voice their opinions but this is just sad. I will never go to that place again and I will spread the word to all of my friends and family.

Of course you listed Louie's Chophouse as your favorite restaurant! From what I've been hearing from various sources, Louie's Chophouse family and friends are doing damage control posting phony reviews about the place being so good in response to what the people are saying about the restaurant quality becoming more and more awful. Rather than clean up their act, they would rather post phony good reviews. We can see right through you, Louie's people!

I recently went to Louie's after not having been there in a while. The experience was solid, as always. While clearly not a downtown steak-house (i.e. grossly overprices, unbearably loud, confusingly busy), Louie's is among the best places to go on the south side for a steak and a drink. I confess that I'm not sure what the other reviewers are writing about--they either have awful taste or are former (likely fired) staff. Keep up the good work Louies...
AMENDED: Mary Hanigan--you clearly have mental issues if you're getting so worked up about a restaurant's review which CLEARLY indicates that you were likely fired. In fact, I think you served me a couple of times there--sad, cause I remember you not being such a demented, pathetic loser. Please do the world a favor and just stop eating out. That's all.
Pros: Amazing steak
Cons: Sleepy

I am so happy that I didn't listen to what the people had to say, my husband and I went to the restaurant to celebrate his birthday. I was a little concerned because the reviews weren't the best, but we decided to try out ourselves and let us be the judge. The service was great, knew what she was talking about. As for the food w e both had steak and it was fantastic I had the filet which cook perfectly while my husband had the special the bone in Ribeye which he said was awesome. I would come back and again and tell my friends and family about it. I am so glad I didn't listen to the reviews because I would never have found my new favorite restaurant!!
Pros: Food was Great!! Service Great!!
Cons: Music a little loud but still enjoyable

Well, My husband and I recently went to Louie's Chophouse for dinner and I have to say I was beyond disappointed. We live in Oak Lawn and have been here before. We did not expect to be treated in the way that we were treated on this particular evening. Our food was nothing special, our drinks were not good, (How hard is it to make a good lemondrop martini???) and the hostess was yelling at her staff right in front of us!!! How unprofessional! We definitely will not be returning which is sad because we live so close! I guess there is always Jennys, Krapils, and Palermos
And as a correction to the reviewer ..... portly fellow.... Which probably is one of Louie's family members or friend of the family...
I have never been an employee of Louie's Chophouse (I have better taste than that) ..... nor am I "disgruntled" ... and the only awful taste that I have is the taste of the food you served that is burned into my memory.
Such an obvious play by people connected with Louie's Chophouse.... so sad.
Pros: Absolutely nothing
Cons: Unprofessional Staff, Food that is just okay,

Now all you get is junk all the way across the board! The meal we got was edible at best, the drinks were pure distilled junk the service was shameful and the atmosphere was lacking! What a huge waste of time! Louie's stop going downhill! Just let us keep the fond memories and CLOSE ALREADY!
Cons: SO MUCH TO LIST! SERVICE SERVICE SERICE ATMOSPHERE FOOD ETC
