Close to Oakland Airport our mini Dauschund is well cared for while we are away. The staff meets you first before the boarding and takes full notes of your dog's needs. When you pick up your pet you get a report card on how he did. Looking at our guys report card was almost like looking at my daughters when they were little. A very knowledgble and caring staff make this the perfect "Canine Hilton" for our little guy

I have been a customer of Citizen Canine for 8 years. Citizen Canine is home away from home for my 2 Mini-Schnauzers. The staff is carrying and reliable. I know that my girls are in very good hands. Citizen Canine offers age appropriate play groups, love session, T-Touch and 24-hr day and overnight care. I am very fortunate that I have found such a "special home" for my girls.

Citizen Canine has done a nice job taking care of my senior citizen. They let him ?play? with other old dogs, since his hips are unsteady and he has been knocked down before by a jumpy young dog at the park. they often don?t answer the phone and it can take awhile to get a call back if you get one at all. But I forgive this because of the time a few years ago I was rushing to the airport and forgot his important meds. One of the employees volunteered to drive to our vet and get replacement meds, and called my cell to tell me everything was fine before I even boarded my flight. They have also sat in my dog's room and hand fed him if he was not eating - no extra charge.
Pros: lots of attention from staff, extra care at no extra charge
Cons: can be hard to get a reservation

My dog loooves this place! It??s right by Oakland Airport, and it??s so much better than the traditional kennel. Dogs get individual rooms, and I even got a training class for my dog while he was there. You can pay $10 to get your dog a session of playtime to make sure he??s getting extra attention while he??s away from home. It??s expensive though ?? about $45 a night, and the minimum is seven days. My dog was happy there, but he was happy to come home too.
PROS: Lovely facility, great staff
CONS: Definitely pricey

I never known there is a place like this so the first time I went there was when I was going to Asian for a few weeks and no one could take care of my dog so I gave them to Citizen for a few weeks. I was nervous at first to give my dog to someone I don't know, but when i meet the staff I was very happy with it. When I came back the dog was in perfect condition( nobroken bones or anything) Great place.

If you have a dog and are going out of town, consider boarding them at Citizen Canine. They defininitely give your dog attention and they have play time so he or she isn't locked up in a small kennel all day. You can even get extras like massages for you pooch or agility lessons. This is definitely a fancier dog boarding place than most so it's a little pricey, but hey, if you have they money....
It's conveniently located by the airport too!
PROS: Fun and love for dogs while you're away.
CONS: A little pricey.

When we have to travel somewhere where we can't take our dog (an Australian Shepherd named Rhody), we always take him to Citizen Canine. It's more like a hotel or a doggie spa than a kennel. The staff are all friendly dog-lovers who lavish individual attention on the guests, each of whom gets to stay in their own glass-walled apartment with a raised cot. There's are large indoor and outdoor play areas and special services such as massage, agility training, and "love sessions" (i.e. extra attention, which Rhody soaks up like a sponge). Rhody is always excited when we tell him he's going to Citizen Canine. The staff also know how to handle emergencies -- once, when we were far away, Rhody had to be taken to a nearby veterinary hospital for a digestive-tract problem. He got the proper scans and IVs and everything worked out fine.
My personal blog entry endorsing Citizen Canine and Fog City Dogs, Rhody's favorite day care establishment, is highly ranked on Google and is the most-viewed item on my blog. See http://waderoush.typepad.com/twr/2004/04/the_best_san_fr.html.

This is the only place where I feel comfortable leaving Ruby, because she is always happy to return to Citizen Canine. At other kennels, she would start to shake and cry in the parking lot, but here she runs right in! The staff at Citizen Canine know her and really care for her too. I like their approach to group play - small, supervised groups - so Ruby's playmates are always her own speed. I also like that there is someone there with the dogs all night long - I was surprised to learn at my old kennel the dogs were alone overnight. They get really busy though, and I have been learning to really reserve in advance so Ruby is not disappointed.
Pros: caring staff, appropriate playgroup, 24 hour staffing
Cons: fills up quickly
